Do you use/have exercise equipment at home? If so what do you have and would you recommend it?

I own exercise DVDs and must admit I never use them regularly - although I should.
I have an ab-trimmer but it's gathering dust in the loft.
My friend has a running machine which she uses every day (well she is training for the London Marathon!) and I keep thinking about getting one for myself. Thing is it will probably just end up sitting in the corner unused after a while.
Interested to hear what others have, what makes they are etc etc.

Have just bought myself an ex bike off e-bay for a tenner! A bargain! I didn't want to spend too much as I know I'll probably get fed up of doing it but I really need tp give it a go. Am planning on doing half an hour's cycling a day infront of the TV. Have done 2 days, so far so good.
I also have an abdominiser that I got from freecycle but it hurts my back so have given up on that.

DH bought me a cross trainer for Christmas which i used a lot for the first week!

Its out in out garage so these dark nights are putting me off a bit - will start next week!

Having paid a fortune for many various forms of exercise equipment and DVD's i now rely on my very on built in exercise equipment - MY LEGS!! I take my self off for a power walk at 1.30pm everyday, after ive watched loose women

Sparkler1 · 07/03/2007 10:21

So not worth paying out for anything in that case?!

I have a stationary bike that I have had for 4 years and I do use it. I think the trick is to not keep it out of site. I keep mine in my parlour and I only remove it if I have company coming.

i have a cross trainer which i use alot. mandymoo was it you i talked into buying one? you have to have these things handy so you have less excuses. tbh buying the thing isn't enough you have to find the motivation.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 13/03/2007 19:11

A VERY expensive running machine, so expensive that it guilts me into using it every other day. I used to have a cross trainer but it squeaked and this annoyed me, so I bought the Tunturi.

The VERY BEST THING I EVER DID to get more exercise though was to get rid of the TV permanently. Who wants to sit on the sofa and stare at a blank space??? Seriously, worked for me.

DH has loads of exercise equipment, weights and various benches and stuff. He also has a cross trainer and a mini trampoline thing. I pay out every month for membership at my local leisure centre. TBH I think it depends on the type of person you are, for me, although I love exercise, the thought of slogging away by myself in the house kills me.

Sparkler1 i would say if you KNOW you will use it then it is worht it. We have a treadmill I use every other day when my dd is having her morning nap. I have exercised regularly for years and was a regular gym user before she was born and would really miss the chance to do something without the treadmill and while i'm on mat leave it's the only way i'll get anything done (no chance of getting to gym - dp home too late in evenings by which time i am knackered!). But i'm not sure buying something expensive in the hope you will be motivated to use it is worth it. I think you can hire stuff though so maybe try that first??? don't know whaty age your dc or dc's are but you can buy baby jogger strollers suitable for 6mth - 4yrs and although not cheap (2 or 300 quid new) they are cheaper than a lot of other exercise equipment and you can combine exercise with getting LO out for some fresh air!!!!!

I have just got one of those big blow up ball things ... I love it! I am sitting on it now - imagine that, toning up while on Mumsnet

MrsSpoon · 14/03/2007 12:11

Oh, we've got a gym ball too, only it says it is "anti-burst" and it hadn't occurred to me that they could burst and I now have a fear of sitting on it, lying on it etc, in case it is faulty and actually does burst!

LilRedWG · 14/03/2007 12:14

Mine burst when the cat fell off the windowsill onto it and dug his claws in

MrsSpoon · 14/03/2007 15:53

LOL, so you weren't on it at the time then?
