Why do you want to lose weight

I've got this summer dress I feel amazing in, I love to shop but feel limited by what I can wear. At the minute I'm sticking to vest tops, cardies and leggings -really boring safe mumsy clothes. I just can't wait to fit back into my skinny jeans and have a spring in my step and my cheek bones to become more prominent, basically sheer vanity. What's everyone else's motivation?

I know it sounds silly but I don't know really. Confused Maybe because I'm at the heaviest I've ever been. I agree with PP who said this too:

On top of that I want to feel comfortable in hot weather. it's the difference between feeling overly hot and sweaty in summer or feeling comfortable!

I also know if I bumped into anyone I knew from my past I would be embarrassed at the size I am so I suppose vanity too?

originalusernamefail · 20/03/2017 00:08

I feel shit Sad. I'm 32 and I feel 132. I ache, I'm constantly stiff and exhausted, and depressed as hell. I'm too young to feel so shit and I have a son with ASC who will need me to be around for a long time.

NotStoppedAllDay · 20/03/2017 00:46

I want to run decent distances again

Half marathons. In an ok ish time. I love to run but currently only 3/4/5 miles

I want to lose a couple of stone to get back to event running. Love the buzz

plumstone · 20/03/2017 09:44

Vanity and health combo (75%/25% respectively)

This will be my year to have toned arms and shoulders in a vest top!!!!!

DM died with she was 52 from Cancer and was very overweight - I do not want to be the same. Also when I eat real, unprocessed whole foods, in normal sized portions cooked from scratch, with a couple of red wines a week, and lots of fresh air, I sleep properly, look better and generally feel fantastic - Question: why when this is written down it seems so simple???????????

popcornpaws · 20/03/2017 12:17

When i first lost weight it was purely for health reasons as i was constantly tired and my joints were always sore etc.
Now that I've lost it, its purely vanity as i love looking slim and feeling great, I've so much more energy.
Going to the front of the rail when clothes shopping instead of the back is great and not wondering "does this make me look fat?" when the answer was always yes because i was fat!

toffeeboffin · 20/03/2017 16:44

I've been trying to lose two stones of baby weight since January. Very slow to come off, despite meticulous healthy eating, calorie counting etc etc. So boring but necessary.

Jeans are finally fitting and people are finally mentioning that I look good! It's an incentive to continue.

TheresAGhostYouFools · 21/03/2017 11:25

Total vanity - I'm going on holiday with my sister at the end of July. She has the most fantastic figure, which she works hard to maintain. I do not want to look like a flabby mess next to her. (She's 7 years older too!). Interesting what others were saying earlier about fat making you look older - this is absolutely the case for me. I pile on weight on my face, my cheekbones disappear and my eyes look puffed up. As soon as I drop even a couple of pounds you can see it in my face straight away. 7 lbs lost so far, about 10lbs to go.

stevie69 · 21/03/2017 12:24

Hmm, well I lost weight cos I hit 50 a couple of days ago and I fancied being a size 8 cougar, rather than a size 20 Blush

Stevie xx

toffeeboffin · 21/03/2017 19:05

I'm the same as you ghost, even a couple of pounds just changes my face so much! Lose my cheekbones and eyes look puffed up.

I look like a different person!

I also have two incredibly slim SILS who I need to lie next to on the beach.

buggerthebotox · 21/03/2017 19:13

Vanity! I want to look better mainly, but I want to feel stronger and fitter. I've lost a bit (about a stone) and my shape is changing. I've got kneecaps! And some shoulder blades too.

I bought a size 8 pair of skinnies (ok, they're nearer a non-vanity 12 but hey ho) and they FIT.

I've started to lift weights and I'd love to go about in vest tops without slapping people in the face with my bingo wings.

I'm 57.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/03/2017 20:34

Vanity - want to fit into at least a size 10 and preferably some 8s! I'm short so that ought to be achievable.
Health - have residual hip ache/sciatica after SPD in 3 pregnancies.

Hercule · 21/03/2017 20:51

To buck the trend I did lose weight (3 stone ) but never found the motivation from vanity - I was just fed up of aching and my knees hurting. The thing that stops me putting it back on again isn't how I look in my jeans but the joy I feel at being able to stand up from the sofa without grimacing.

user1482079332 · 22/03/2017 16:21

The mysteriousjackalope wow that's so different to here in UK we pay insurance out of salary ect but it's nowhere near as much.Shock

Plumstone I go through phases of being the epitome of health then I swear I get a calling for some junk

thenightsky · 22/03/2017 16:29

Currently I can only get into about 20% of my wardrobe. I cannot afford to replace it all with a size bigger (nor do I want to). 10lb has gone by low carbing. One stone to go and all my lovely clothes with be wearable again.

Want2bSupermum · 22/03/2017 16:42

My primary motivation is to be healthy. I am just into the obese category after having 3 DC in 5 years, one with ASD. I have been eating a lot of crap and it is time it stops. DH is morbidly obese and he is going to start to see his health go.

I need to be healthy to show our DC what that is. DH can go cook himself into an early grave. I am not going to continue on the path he is on. I joined ww after trying to calorie count with MFP. I like that ww, for $45 a month, gives me whole recipes that are somewhat affordable and saves me from cooking every night as I eat the same thing 3 times in the week as dinner or lunch. We don't have SW here in the US.

DH thinks I am doing this for vanity reasons. No, I have 55lbs to lose. It will put me in a good position to remain healthy for our family. I started last week on ww and have lost 1lb.

I am not going to lie, it is an added benefit that I will also look better. That is a nice benefit but not my primary or secondary focus. I am hoping looking better motivates DH but I don't expect it will. I will still love him.

plumstone · 22/03/2017 16:47

Tell me about it user - I hope I've cracked it and now if I fancy junk - I try and have it as a an actual meal not in addition too!!!! So dinner could be take out pizza. want a cake - have it as lunch, I find this helps!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/03/2017 20:33

Because, to quote Frankie Boyle on room 101, my body looks like a dropped lasagna. I'm late-early 30's and I know this is my last chance to get thinner skinny and enjoy it before I get the middle aged spread.

Racmactac · 22/03/2017 20:53

I want to be slim and sexy! That is my motivation.

I also want to be healthy. I was very fit and healthy a few years ago then suffered accident. But when I was working out I not only looked good I felt bloody good as well, loads of energy and positive about life in general

plumstone · 23/03/2017 09:10

"dropped lasagne" Grin love that phrase!!!

Its weird I think when I am eating healthy, exercising regularly, everything generally seems less stressful and "just better" its like life just "clicks"

I am determined that this time it will all become a way of life and not a phase!!!!!! I have started seeing a PT twice a week 30 mins a time which is definitely more maintain-able that slogging my guts out for an hour in the gym 4-5 times a week. He works me to dropping point and the results are beginning to show!

HottySnanky · 23/03/2017 10:41

Health, and vanity. I wake up with back pain every day. I have creaky knees and a clicky hip. I'm almost 39 and I don't want to be fat and 40. I've lost 15lbs so far (on a VLCD as it suits my "all or nothing" approach) and This Is IT. I want to wake up feeling good and energetic.
Of course I am also looking forward to getting rid of all my big clothes and buying lots of new slinky ones. I have promised myself that I will not be in long sleeves and trousers come the summer - I will not be the sweaty uncomfortable mess I've been every summer for, erm, twenty years Blush.

Want2bSupermum · 23/03/2017 14:48

Hotty I hear you on being hot in the summer. I have a terrible time here in the US. It's very humid and I get extremely hot. Losing some weight will help a lot.

I'm so big right now that very few of my clothes fit. The ones that do, I don't feel too comfortable in. I know I look 'big'. I just don't want to be looking like that and I know those creaky joints are coming my way if I don't make changes now.

I'm 36 and turn 37 in April. I would really like to have lost at least 10lbs by my birthday, ideally 15lbs.

Want2bSupermum · 23/03/2017 14:51

Oops just saw it's only about 5 weeks to my birthday. I will be super pleased with 8lbs lost from now.
