I can go for days without any, but then a day like today is a nightmare and i've gone bonkers. But I'm quite good with targets, so will give it a go...

JackieNo · 20/02/2007 22:09

I have to say, I didn't find it as difficult as I thought I would the years that I did it. But I did find myself eating a lot of wine gums, and opal fruits.

ForcesSweetheart · 20/02/2007 22:25

Give up chocolate? Are you mad? I couldn't. The only time I've ever successfully lost weight (4.5st) I had a mars bar every single night. I was calorie counting then too, and just saved enough cals to have my treat every night. Many days it was the only thing that got me thru the day.

I have lost a significant amount of weight one other time, 4st, but I wasn't trying then. I have had gall stones for years, but surgeons always refused to operate coz of my weight. I was hospitalised with them when I was 7 mths pregnant and the surgeons here said they'd do it post-baby. After I had DD they were worse than ever and I couldn't eat even a tiny bit of fat without ending up in a&e. I went from 23st on the day she was born, to 19st in 6 months. Had the gall bladder out in July, and since then have gone back up to almost 21st.

Anyway, back to chocolate. Have had 2 fingers of Drifter tonight, taking me to 2070 cals for the day. A little of what you fancy.....

JackieNo · 20/02/2007 22:35

Yes, ForcesSweetheart - I completely agree. I'm not following a diet as such, just trying to eat smaller portions of things, and healthier snacks. It was working fine till Christmas, but it's all been a bit static for me since then. I really need to do what CheesyFeet's doing and try to do some exercise, but it's difficult.

Oh, and my commiserations on the gallstones - I had them too just after I had DD, and it was excruciating - finally had my gall bladder out when DD was 1.5.

CheesyFeet · 21/02/2007 09:32

I've been eating chocolate and pancakes - not together though I'm strictly a sugar and lemon juice girl. I have a massive weakness for Mini Eggs so this time of year is torture!

ForcesSweetheart, welcome

I have been exercising (a bit )- I go to Rosemary Conley classes every week for a weigh in and an exercise class that's tailored to unfit wobbly women like me. I don't stick to the diet 100% but follow its Low GI principles. I've also just signed up for the Race for Life and I shall start doing some brisk walking/running training soon. When is "soon" though

ForcesSweetheart · 21/02/2007 13:03

I managed to get a wee bit of exercise in this morning. Walked to my mate's for an NCT coffee morning, half hour each way. Got doc's appt this afternoon so another 15 minutes walk each way. It's probably a good thing I can't drive.

Have planned out my calories for the rest of the day, and will have 400 cals to spend on treats (did have 570 but scoffed a snickers flapjack bar after lunch at 170), so that'll be my chocolate fix!
Looking forward to weighing in tomorrow (even tho I only started on Monday) as I tend to lose a lot at the start, so hopefully it'll keep me motivated.

WigWamBam · 21/02/2007 13:09

Oh hello ... another lamb to the slaughter ... I mean, another new face Welcome to the MoFos, ForcesSweetheart. There are a number of us here who have a similar amount to lose (including me) so you're among people who have a real understanding of how you feel and what your issues are.

Like Sue, I've found these threads more supportive than anything else I've ever done. The weight is coming off slower than it has before but I'm hopeful that with this support it's going to keep coming off, and stay off. Plus I'm finding that having somewhere to talk about things helps too; I have started to identify and address the issues which have led to my eating problems and I really think that I have a chance of doing something positive about them.

Hi everyone,

Welcome forcessweetheart! I used to calorie count but like suejonez I found I got too obsessed with counting and didn't think about eating healthily and well! I try to concentrate on healthier diet, less junk and (my downfall) more water! I do check calory content of stuff though, particularly snack foods or ready prepared stuff, just so I've an idea of how healthy it's likely to be!

It seems to work except when I indulge in 4 pancakes with maple syrup!

Still, I'm giving up biscuits and possibly chocolate for lent so we'll see how we go! Chocolate could be a problem though!!! I really like to give up vegtables!

JackieNo · 21/02/2007 17:48

Just picked up 'The Hungry Years' (the William Leith book) from the library, so will start to read that, probably not till tomorrow. Am looking forward to it.

ForcesSweetheart, well done on all the walking. A definite Good Thing, I think. Agree that weight definitely comes off quicker at the start - which is a good thing as it's good motivation to carry on.

suejonez · 21/02/2007 19:38

I think all teh walking I am doing with the buggy is helping me keep the weight under control depsite eating everything under the sun at the moment [hopeful emoticon].

Must remember that when I go back to work and cut down on the old fuel intake.

It was D's first full day at the CM today and he had a lovely time [big relief emoticon]. He slpet more than he does at home (exhaustion I think), ate more than he does at home (copying the others?) and has gone off to sleep like a charm (same as he does normally).

Feel much better about going back to work now.

ForcesSweetheart · 21/02/2007 21:20

sue how old's your LO? My DD is 13 months. Buggy's are fab for getting you walking aren't they? I can walk so much more easily pushing the buggy than without, my back doesn't hurt nearly as much.

Reading that "plump nannies" thread has really spurred me on with this. It made me think about all the things I can't do with DD coz of my weight/fitness level. I can't get down on the floor with her, coz I can't get back up. I can't kneel down to her level, coz my knees can't take the weight. I can't carry her for very long coz my back aches. I thought the OP on that thread was out of order, if she had those kinda thoughts about the nanny then she wouldn't be doing either of them a favour hiring her, and having her work the odd half day to see how she works out is kinda raising her hopes of getting the job, but hey ho...

suejonez · 21/02/2007 21:41

I thought the op on the fat nanny thread was bizarre - I can't beleive that her nanny was so fat that she couldn't get on and off the floor but that it didn't occur to her that she might have a problem with that. But some of the following posts were truly aweful such sweeping statements about fat people and thats anyone over size 18. Actually at size 18 I am preety fit and can give most people a run for their money!

My DS is 15 months but he was born at 27 weeks so his adjusted age is just 1yr so he's probably about the same developmental age as your DD. He is on the verge of walking (cruising everywhere and walking if pushing something) but his speech is very slow. Mind you thats mostly because he changed languages completely at 12 months so that will put him back quite a bit on the language front.

JackieNo · 21/02/2007 22:34

Glad D's time at the CM went well, sue - it's such a weight off your mind when you are happy with the childcare.

ForcesSweetheart · 22/02/2007 09:44

Morning all! How's everyone this fine morning? Can ya tell I'm in a good mood? lol

Those of you who weigh-in today, do you tend to do it in the morning?

I weighed-in this morning and I'm down 6.75lb since Monday! Am thrilled to bits.
Went to doc's yesterday afternoon and told her we've put ttc on hold til DH gets back from Iraq around xmas, so she's put me back on all the drugs I had to come off while TTC. One of them is prozac, so hopefully being back on that will help with the emotional eating I've been doing a lot of.

We also had a chat about weight loss drugs, and she has prescribed Xenical. Several of my GPs have tried me on this in the past but it always triggered a gall-stones attack after a couple of days. Now I have no gall bladder hopefully I'll be able to tolerate it. Have any of you ever tried it?

JackieNo · 22/02/2007 10:09

Morning, ForcesSweetheart - wow! that's a great loss. Congratulations. I think we all weigh at different times, some first thing in the morning, but I just stick to the same time of day as when I first weighed, which is after picking up DD from school this afternoon. WWB usually posts the losses etc on the Friday at some point.

I've not tried Xenical myself, but have a male friend who was on it for a while - it really helped him. Not sure if he's still on it, though. I think you have to be careful what you eat, as it reacts badly with fatty foods (which, I guess is the whole point).

JackieNo · 22/02/2007 10:11

Has your DH already gone to Iraq, ForcesSweetheart? Must be incredibly tough for you. Do you find you eat more when he's away, I bet I would.

ForcesSweetheart · 22/02/2007 11:04

Nah he's not gone yet, not til sometime in May, but it means if I got pregnant now he'd be away for almost all the pregnancy - hence putting it on hold for now. My last pregnancy was so bad theres no way I could cope alone, particularly with a toddler. I was in a wheelchair from 24 weeks and couldn't even get upstairs to bed by myself.

I do find I eat more when he's away, but hopefully the prozac will help with that. Last time he was over there for 6 mths I lost the plot completely. Was off work for 2 months with severe depression, drugged up to the eyeballs for most of it. I'm hoping having my DD to focus my energies on will mean I don't dwell on the possibilities so much this time.

JackieNo · 22/02/2007 11:17

Oh blimey - poor you. Was the wheelchair because of SPD? Sounds like it's definitely a wise decision to delay a bit till he's around.

ForcesSweetheart · 22/02/2007 12:36

Yeh it was SPD, made much worse by the fact that I was lugging 23 stone by the time she was born. I'd love to get below 15 stone before he gets back (just before xmas) as I reckon I could handle a pregnancy so much more easily.

ForcesSweetheart · 23/02/2007 08:58

Wow it's been quiet in here. I hope that means you've all been off celebrating big losses this week!
I went about 150 cals over my limit yesterday, but I'm not worried about it in the whole scheme of things, I still ate tons less than I normally would have.

Sue, that's exactly where DD is at. Runs around the place pushing her walker but try and get her to let go and walk and she plonks herself on her bum. It must have been incredibly scary having him at 27 weeks! I bet he was tiny? How come he changed languages?

agalch · 23/02/2007 09:26

Hi all

Welcome ForcesSweetheart(mind if i call you FS for short)Ouch SPD,i never had it thank goodness but know people who have. You poor thing.

Well i weighed in last night and lost 3lbs.Really need to excersise too tho.Have a free 2 week trial at Curves so going down on Saturday afternoon for my induction.Really hate the thought of it cos i loathe excersise.Still havnt done my davina dvd and i bought it a week agoI know it sounds pathetic but i am really struggling to find time, just looking after the dd's is a nightmare never mind the ds's,although the ds's are much older they almost take up more of my time.I figure if i join Curves i am going away and they can't annoy me or ask me for a lift/drinks/finding stuff etc while i am trying to excersise.

Have lost another 17lbs since i bought my wedding dress so wonder if and how much it will need altered.

Anyhow must go and get organised, going to a friends for coffee, but no cake sadly lol!

JackieNo · 23/02/2007 09:56

ForcesSweetheart, Sue adopted her DS - she did a fab blog about it here - well worth a read (but you'll need a box of tissues).

CheesyFeet · 23/02/2007 09:59

4½ pounds off this week

I was hoping for the crown but FS you have beaten me to it well done that's a fantastic loss - near as damn it half a stone!

Agalch, you are going to look stunning in your dress with your new slim figure.

ForcesSweetheart · 23/02/2007 10:41

Ah thanks for putting me straight Jackie. Will have a read at the blog when DH takes DD for a walk over town later.

Well done on the big losses agalch & CheesyFeet!

CheesyFeet I reckon the crown's yours. I don't think my loss should count as it's the first week. Any slimming club I've ever been to has always barred first week losses from the running for "slimmer of the Week" etc, coz of the fluid losses in the first week. I fully intend to whip it off ya next week though Although I am intending to binge a bit tomorrow night. Got my best mate bringing her new fella down to meet us for dinner and I plan to eat and drink whatever I like.

CheesyFeet · 23/02/2007 10:56

Ah yes FS but what you don't know is that I put on 5½lbs last week when a birthday binge went on for about 3 days so I reckon loads of mine is water too

Half a stone in less than a week is worthy of the crown regardless of water loss
