How to boost metabolism?

I have lost about 2 stone, still have another 3 to go to be ideal healthy weight.

I've always felt I have a slow metabolism and know I gain weight easily. I did a scan at the gym (it puts a current through your body and also measures BMI, muscle density etc). Scan announced that I have the metabolism of a 52 year old. I'm 35!

So, after 6 weeks of regular workouts I hopped onto the scanner, only to find that my metabolic age is...still 52. Please please tell me how to boost my metabolism!

You know those scanners are utter bollocks, right? I'm not saying you don't have a slow metabolism, I'm just saying that standing on one of those machines won't confirm or deny it.

On the slow metabolism front, I wish I could help you. Mine is very sluggish and I wonder if it's because I had an ED years ago. Lots of exercise and eating well keeps my weight down, but I do gain if I go over 1200 cals a day.

I take spirulina as a health drink from Holland & Barrett which is allegedly good for assisting weight loss. You still naturally need a great diet routine alongside it though.

Being on the go with lots of physical exercise also helps. I bought a recumberant exercise bike for at home this year which is very helpful too.

I am convinced mine is out of whack, if I was to eat what he calculators say I know I would gain a lot of weight and I'm 5'10".

When I was in school I mainly didn't eat till I got home at 5 cause I couldn't stand the taste of the school dinners, put in loads of weight in new sixth form school because the food was nice then uni drinking and managed to lose after kids but still if I go off piste for even a week I pile it on.

I've read up on it and you can theoretically change by slowly increasing your calories week in week but all the starvation studies done historically point to metabolism being lowered significantly after a period of insufficient calories.

Sorry so point of school sentence was that I wonder if that mucked up my metabolism or was it the low calorie dieting post uni.
