o sally, sometines we need food to feel better, but often it makes us feel worse. but if you are in a bad place in your life, then dont make it worse by guiit. just get back oin the wagon if you can.

i have been given a free pack of alpro soya products. the milk is 5.8g of net carbs. does anyone know if its ok to drink it? IT DOES SAY it has sugar in it.
am confused as really hungry and wont be home for another hour at least.

OrmIrian · 09/02/2007 12:36

I don't suppose it would do any harm if you are happy to eat soya but as it's higher than normal milk I probably wouldn't. Milk of any kind is best avoided or severly restricted on induction. Isn't it UHT? If so keep it till later.

stitch · 09/02/2007 16:17

Hi Sally,

you sound like me at the moment. Not lcing, just trying to be careful....and failing. I have such a sweet tooth and I fall victim to the lure of the biscuit tin as soon as I let myself stray from lc. But I really really want to get myself straight without lc - but may be back again soon if things get too out of control.

I want to know how anyone out there can eat just the 1 bicuit, or not scoff half the box if someone gives them some Belgian truffles for their b'day .

OrmIrian · 12/02/2007 12:32

ernest - thanks for the book recommendation btw! I've ordered it today. I need help!!!

stitch · 12/02/2007 15:24

thisis why i dont buy crisps or biscutis of chocolates or fizzy drinks. even when not on a diet.

OrmIrian · 12/02/2007 16:18

If I didn't have kids I wouldn't have biscuits - never used to have them pre-kids. And I'm only really tempted by home-made. I've been anaesthetised from the temptation by LC for 2.5 years now so have got out of the habit of resisting. But I've been back from work for an hour now and haven't succumbed yet

peanutbutter · 13/02/2007 07:25

hello all - yes i meant to thank ernest for the book recommendation too, sorry i missed it first time. The reviews were interesting to read. I'm debating whether or not to order it - i already have Susie Orbach's On Food and a couple of weeks ago I bought Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin . i kiss his face on the cover every night

still sticking to lowcarbing here - like sally i'm avoiding "the obvious". I can't just eat one or two of something nice OrmIrian either - never have "nice" things in the house because i quite simply can't control myself around them. i really don't know how i'll get on when ds is older and we're supposed to have crisps and biscuits in the house like normal families. Maybe Paul's hypnotic messages will have sorted my head out by then

stitch · 13/02/2007 10:59

my kids think they are deprived becuse i dont buy crispsa nd things. but its essier not to buy them when you only do online shopping.
we went out last night. nandos, whichis a fairly atkins frindly plce. but i stuffed my face.. and have gained half pound. i know i should have styed away froom thenutss, but,.......... the kids hd ice cream and i felt a saint for stayeding away from it. hence the nuts i think. but stuffing face is no good either.

otherwise its going well. still have no energy in the morning. but if i make it to th e gym, i cn do good workout there. i find that this diet takes up a huge proportion of my time and energy. but as long as the weight loss continues, im willing to keep trying iyswim.

MrsDoolittle · 13/02/2007 14:00

Hello Ladies,

So this is where you all are!

I was sure there must be a low carb thread out there somewhere.

I started on the South Beach diet about a month ago.
I'm 5'4" and a size 16/18, more 18 though since ds was born this time last year (we celebrated his first birthday on Sunday).
I can't remember what my BM is though it's something hidoeus. Most people are shocked (or the do a very good impression of) when I say I am 13 1/2 stone.
Well I'm 12 1/2 now, 2 stone to go. But I do feel a hell of alot better.

We have a had a lovely weekend away and I have eaten birthday cake, but apart from a couple of slices of toast for breakfast and potatoes at dinner we are doing okay.

I'm back to phase 1 now eating eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch and no starches at dinner with lots of nuts and low fat cheese in between. It's no too bad really.

OrmIrian · 13/02/2007 14:12

ernest - I'm reading the Gilliam Riley book now. Interesting but I haven't read enough to think 'yippee, that's me sorted then!' but I'll keep going.....

peanutbutter · 13/02/2007 18:55

hello MrsD & welcome ((how did you find the Huggles nappies - did they do the trick at nighttime?))

just about to make a big pan of chicken and leek soup. had salad for lunch with peperami snack, yoghurt for breakie with nuts & seeds. haven't had a drop of water and just about to open a bottle of wine

MrsDoolittle · 13/02/2007 20:41

I love the huggles Thank you so much peanutbutter. I have been given another one and I have just ordered another two in XL, so it's definitely thumbs up from me!!

I have had a feta salad for lunch, a handful of nuts at some point in the afternoon.
Dh went out tonight and the cupboard was bare apart from the ingredients for the Salmon patties with green beans and asparagus which I had planned for tonights dinner. So I had fried eggs, a couple of lean, low carb sausies and fried mushrooms for dinner instead. I have also opened a bottle of red wine to curl up on the sofa and watch Life On Mars with.

peanutbutter · 14/02/2007 16:39

i'm glad you were happy with them; i just couldn't get to grips with them.

Well i've done really well the past few days but i'm on the brink of making ds some chewy cookies (aaaargh).

i've already worked out the recipe halved so i've only 7 of the damn things in the tin instead of 14.

Need to get Paul on my headphones.

How's everyone else doing?

shit. made the full quantity, ate loads of the dough and then ate one straight out of the oven and burned the roof of my mouth.

OrmIrian · 19/02/2007 13:19

Well I've been off lc for a few weeks now and guess what? My waist measures 27.5" - that's nearly 2" since the last time I measured it a few months back. So confused...I'm trying really hard to be good now that the control of lc is gone but I'm not being strict. I am managing to stick to some rules (most of the time) - not eating after dinner, stopping when I'm no longer hungry, drinking lots of water, and the overeating book that ernest recommended has been helpful. Although I am delighted about the loss of inches but really scared that if I can't get a grip on my eating it's all going to go back on. This is what always happens when I try to spread my wings diet-wise and I am driving myself mad....so sorry for the waffle but I needed to share the madness...

Waaaiiiillllll!!! I never used to be like this. I just ate and be damned to the consequences. Why is maintaining soooo hard?

peanutbutter · 21/02/2007 18:57

OrmIrian i'm confused - have you lost or gained 2"?? If you're sticking to the rules most of the time then isn't that good enough? It's what all respected nutritionists ask us to do - get it right 80% of the time if possible. I think you might be being too hard on yourself.

anyway - back to the good old menu sharing:

today i had yoghurt with mixed nuts and seeds for breakfast, homemade chicken and veg soup for lunch, a peperami mid afternoon, loads of coffee all day long but with Splenda, and a big plate of bbq chicken from the deli counter for tea (was a bit greedy there but it was delish).

OrmIrian · 27/02/2007 08:20

Hi peanut - sorry, thought this thread had been abandoned....

I've lost 2". So yes I should be happy and I guess I am. But I have got myself in such a state of panic about weight/size that I feel scared when I'm not actively trying to lose weight. Stupid I know.... [sad[ But I think it's OK now, ...I'm not bingeing, I am eating bad stuff but not too much, it's basically a balanced sort of diet light on processed carbs. I'm not measuring regularly but watching how tight clothes are getting. So far so good I think.

I've also started karate . Very early days as yet but it's meant that I've started running again to get fitter and doing yoga every day to get flexibility so hoping that I'll get more muscles to replace the flab.

Thanks for your support
