Will ditching the drink be enough to lose weight?

I'm looming on the cusp of overweight at 5,3 and 10st and having just made a pact to give up alcohol as it's become apparent I have a bigger drinking problem than I thought. (Joining AA type drinking problem).

As well as all the obvious benefits, not failing my dd, saving my liver, self respect etc I'd also love to believe it'll help me magically drop some weight. The problem is I'm a lazy moo who also loves cooking and eating and I just know my alternative to drinking on my own till I fall asleep of an evening will be cooking whatever I fancy and then inevitably eating it. Grin. My Dp works unbelievably long hours so I tend to have home cooked meals ready for him which means I'm cooking huge portions that often get left as he'll eat crap on shift and hoovered up by me plus I rarely get to eat with him so I binge in front of the tv.

On top of wondering if sobriety will bring a drop in dress size I'd love to hear any non diet suggestions for changing eating habits.
I'm just not strong enough to start dieting on top of this right now.

Of course I need to exercise too

Lime and soda is a nice replacement drink. Or grapefruit squash and soda. I try to drink at least 2 litres of water a day and have a soda and cordial occasionally as a treat.

OH and I did Dry January this year, and I managed to get down to my ideal weight of 9st and stay there.

Then things went back to normal in Feb, and even though I try to run 2-3 times a week and eat healthily, I am now 9st 6 and really struggling to get back down to 9st.

I put it mostly down to wine. I'm not much a of a sweet-toothed person, but love wine, cheese, spicy food etc.

We keep trying to cut out wine, then fall off the wagon within a few days. I'm actually thinking that not having had a drink since Sunday is something to be proud of..Blush

I too am ditching the booze in an attempt to lose weight.

The thing that I really don't think helps is the line people peddle out about replacing the booze with loads of sugar. I cannot see how on earth this helps as booze addiction is a lot to do with sugar addiction and replacing it is only going to make the "cravings" last longer and longer. Its far better to just cut it out and go cold turkey for a couple of days and you are not prolonging the painful cravings. I am convinced people fail because they continue to snaffle a load of sugar which just keeps the "cravings" going.
