I have just started weight watchers. I have this friend and although it is obvious that I really need to loose weight (as I am very over weight) he tries to sabotage my diets.
If I say that I am on a diet he says "oh again". then ALWAYS get the chocolate out, and the crisps and eats complete junk whilst I am there. It is soooo hard not to eat anything and he will wave food in front of my face. He seems to think it is a joke.

Has anybody else had this problem. He deals with everything as a joke so confronting him is hard. Is it me being over sensitive being so annoyed at him?

yes unfortunately it's my husband that does it. He does the weekly shopping so out come the biscuits, chocolate, "normal" yoghurts etc. I lost 2 stone last year and he really didn't like it. I think people like to see others suffer. why not stock up on "low fat" snacks so when he's munching crisps, you can munch on pretzels

carlyb ... your friend is being cruel. Can't you tell him that it is upsetting you and that you it would mean a lot to you if he supported you and your wish to lose weight?
This sort of thing really annoys me ... it is like practical jokes ... I hate them. People who think it is funny to scare others with toy spiders etc ... really gets me ...

I think thats well out of order, friends should be supportive even if you've done it previouse times, who hasn't. I don't know what to suggest but i do think that is wrong.

carlyb - stick with it. I think sometimes people feel worried that if you lose weight you will change as well! I agree with ghosty - it is unkind and you could do without it. Is it a friend you live with/visit - is it possible to avoid this situation?

carlyb · 06/06/2004 21:36

thanks guys. I am glad it isnt just me that thinks he is not being fair. Jampot - your dh is not being fair - I would do the shopping!!

It is a friend that I visit (and he comes around mine sometimes). I think that I will arm myself with lots of low fat snacks next time I see him.
I think that it upsets me because I find dieting really hard - and I have put on a drastic amount of weight recently - so I really need help. I am disappointed in him.

I think you should tell him exactly what you just posted there carly. Its hard enough without friends being actively unsupportive
And if all else fails, never mind babes, you've still got us
