Like for more than a year ... and if so, how did you do it?

You have to change the way you eat permanently rather than diet.

And exercise and not worry about it.

Get rid of the scales, find an interest to occupy your mind, get into healthy snacks.

When you have lost the weight, when your jeans start to feel tight - eat a bit healthier until they are comfortable and then forget about it again.

Weight is the least important thing about us, unless your health is suffering.

lost post preg weight by lowering my carbs. whenever i want to get slimmer i just have healthy snacks such as dried fruit and nuts, hummus and pitta, raw carrots etc. just tell yourself NO PROCESSED FOOD and you'll be guarateed to lose weight. and you'll be able to eat so that you are full. also, stay clear of 'low fat/ diet' versions of unhealthy foods eg low fat choc mousse. just eat plian, wholesome, natural food.

My sister did. She lost a few stone with weight watchers. Now she's more relaxed.

When she feels a little heavier she is VERY good and does it proplerly otherwise she's just sensible.

I have - when I was first diagnosed with Croh's Disease I was on gazillions of steroids and put on 3 stone, which I had to work really hard to shift once my health was stabilised. I had to educate myself quite a lot about nutrition (I knew nothing at all about food - until then I'd never had to diet or learn about nutrition) and learn to appreciate having just one square of choc rather than a whole bar!

My top tip is don't eat junk when you're hungry. Choc, cake, crisps etc do not fill you up - so eat stuff which will fill you up like fruit, all those healthy snacks. Also drink loads of water as our bodies confuse thirst and hunger.

I'm back on steroids atm (having a bad crohns moment) so I'm really hoping not to gain weight again. I've always stayed around the same weight that I wasafter my 3 stone loss tho. Fingers crossed...

Agree with the other posts in this thread... but I eat healthily, almost never eat junk food, have been going to the gym for over a year with a trainer ... and have not lost even a lb in that time. So what is the point?

not being funny but it depends what weight you are to start with.....

bluejelly · 22/01/2007 15:56

I lost half a stone last year and kept it off. Cut back on junk food and stop eating when you are full is my advice. Also up the exercise

i lost 6 stone by exercising daily and eating healthy.. lots of grilled fish, chicken with salad or veggies! i was a size 20-22 and went down to a size 12! i kept the weight off by keeping up with the good habits i had established whilst dieting

i have put on a stone, but i have just had a baby! (thats my excuse and i'm sticking with it)

Posey · 22/01/2007 16:10

I lost 3 stone by changing my eating habits. Was having a smallish dinner but then feeling hungry mid-evening so eating a load of rubbish then.
So I switched to eating quite big meals so that I didn't want to snack in between. Oh and finding something to prevent the boredom, so I didn't eat to relieve it.
The weight has stayed off for several years, even when I stopped smoking I didn't put weight on. It is a case of changing your habits, rather than dieting as such as you end up feeling like you are being deprived. My philosophy is "a little of what you fancy does you good" as long as "bad" stuff is in moderation.

sophy - have you dropped inches rather than weight? Ie are you a smaller size. You may find that by doing lots of excercise you tone up and as muscle is heavier than fat it means you may even gain weight.

I went through a period like this about 2 years ago - I have lowered my food intake and also lowered my gym visits and now the weight has fallen off. Sometimes you can do too much excercise.

sophy · 22/01/2007 19:15

Nope, have not got any smaller - jeans are as tight as they always have been, so not a case of muscle weighing more than fat. Am about a stone heavier than I was pre-kids, would be happy to just lose 1/2 a stone and get back to a "comfortable" size 12, and stay there. Have been on lots of diets where I lost weight for special occasions, but weight always goes back on afterwards.

at my highest I weighed about 16 stone. I am now about 11.10 and I have been around this weight for about ten years.

I changed the way I ate and my attitude to food. I did not realise that I had a really distorted view of 'normal' eating. I couldn't underastand why I was so big, but I was eating almost double what I do now and making very bad food choices. Losing it was hard, but I was very strict and just kept on going regardless of what the scales said (they are very fickle and disheartening.)

I still have to watch my eating - not all the time, but last year the scale crept up to 12.7 and I thought uh-oh and had to bring back my old regime. Worked though, am now 11.10 and hope to be under 11 by the end of March.

Take it slow and steady and don't talk yourself out of it.
