What sort of BMI do you think of as slim?

This question is prompted by nothing but vanity!

I am a healthy BMI, but although I feel quite strong and fit, I definitely look solid rather than slim. Does one need a sleb type BMI of 18 to look slim, rather than "normal"?

I do know that BMI is supposedly set a bit high for shorter people and some ethnic backgrounds, but I'm Caucasian and 5'4 if that makes a difference? (And a biggish build- size 7 feet).

Just wondering whether to stop or try and keep going really!

For me, there is a difference between the meanings of 'slim' and 'thin'. I reckon most people who have a healthy BMI look 'slim' but you probably only look 'thin' under about 22.

I am another one who is healthy BMI but still trying to lose some weight. But for me this is not mainly about vanity, it's about decreasing sugar and increasing exercise. I am 5.4 and now 10 stone (was closer to 10.5 stone over xmas), would like to be closer to 9.5. If I eat what I want I can still just remain within my healthy BMI range of under 10 and a half stone, but it does mean I'm eating a ton of sugar, which I shouldn't be as apart from anything else I have a family history of type 2 diabetes. And it also means I'm not doing any exercise, and exercising makes me feel good. So there are sometimes other good reasons to lose a bit of weight, even if you are within a healthy BMI.

Depends on the person- their body frame and how much muscle they are carrying.

My BMI is about 21-22 - I think I look pretty slim tbh. I'm 5 foot 7 and do a lot of sport (including weights) and my body fat percentage is fairly low. I have abs and do not jiggle (not trying to be judgy, just slightly miffed by the "only slim if less than 20")
However I agree that someone who doesn't do any exercise at BMI 22 will probably look "normal" (ie not overweight but not super fit either) rather than "slim"

The lightest I’ve ever been (as an adult!) was a BMI of 22 and I had people freaking out and telling me I was looking ill and that I needed to stop dieting. I’m 5ft 7 or 8ish, I’m never quite sure. But I have always been very muscular and heavy for my size, and I seem to bulk up if I so much as look at a dumbbell! Not that I’m complaining, I’m rather proud of my Schwartzneger biceps Grin

My BMI is 21 and I look slim enough but not slim-slim (and definitely not skinny).

I think to look properly slim it needs to be between 18 and 19. That for me is slim all over, rather than slim in general but still with a few chunkier bits. When I'm at BMI 20 I look slim, but I still have a slightly bigger bottom for example. At 18 or 19 that goes and I look properly slim all round.
