I am so struggling with my weight. Why is it I can start a diet on Monday, go 4-5 days with no problems, and then eat nothing but rubbish and ruin everything I did right in one evening??
Everybody in these threads seems to be doing so so well. Whats the secret? I am a WW fan and have lost weight before, so I know I can do it, but it seems at the moment, I do nothing buy comfort eat and can't stop. . Any suggestions??

I do this. I just had a food doctor lunch - cod with lentil rice and seeds and broccoli and then I just had 3 quality street toffees! How stupid is that! I have no will power and a sweet tooth.

Fimbles5 · 17/01/2007 13:13

You don't know how good it is to hear I am not alone. Mind you 3 toffees is good in comparison. I'm afraid to say I binge eat big time!!

In my case the trigger is sugar. I can't eat sugar in reasonable quantities. I'm with the 'why eat one biscuit when there's a whole packet' school of eating. So I gave it up. Entirely. And I'm in control again. If I have a break as I did over xmas it all goes to pot again and I put on weight. But cut it out again and after a few weeks I'm OK. Could that help you?

TeeCee · 17/01/2007 13:20

Oh that was just an example. I spent loads of time going through healthy cook books and ordering loads of veg etc and then last night I ordered a pizza!

Oh and i have 3 sugars in my tea, and yesterday I was in waitrose buying sushi for lunch and decided to buy chocolate dipped flapjacks as a treat - WHY????????????????????

Fimbles5 · 17/01/2007 13:24

It seems to be having the willpower not to open the cupboard door. Last week started diet on Thurs. Avoided fish & chips (big+) and everything I knew was bad all the way to Monday. (Lost 3lbs) Felt really good then proceeded to eat everything I could lay my hands on - biscuits, crisps, cakes - all the bad stuff, weighed in this morning and am 1lb heavier than when diet started .

Fimbles, I just think it has to be the right time for you....I have had a kind of epiphany or whatever it is they call it - I suddenly 'saw' the harm all the crap and processed stuff would be doing to my HEALTH and for me that has been a MAJOR turning point.

I simply don't think about my weight, just about my health. I am a mum and want to live till I'm 100 to spend as much time as possible with my child! I can give myself that (hopefully) by simply filling myself up on good stuff.

I have not once been hungry or felt deprived, because I eat to full up point on really healthy stuff, so not only am I full but I feel it's doing me GOOD as well; I feel so much more at peace....and I actually hanker after the healthy stuff because it will give me what I want in life! I really haven't craved crisps, choocolate or really processed food.

It's like a magic wand and though I don't weigh myself (because the focus is on health not weight) my clothes are starting to hang v loose now

HTH?

Sunnysideup - You are fantastic. You sound so full of life and are obviously a wonderful Mum, well done you. Perhaps, this is round the corner for me. I have already managed to lose my waistline and am already thinking what this rubbish is doing to my health. So, hopefully if I keep thinking this way I will choose that apple instead of those crisps. Thanks for replying.

I saw an episode of You Are What You Eat on TV and although I realise that the whole thing is over the top for TV it really hit home - I started looking up info on the internet about what that rubbish is doing to your body and it really scared me - I think sunnysideup is right - something needs to "click" to make it all suddenly become obvious!

sunnysideup · 17/01/2007 13:43

It's taken bloomin long enough for it to click with me but yes I think that's it Jelly - it has to come from your own feelings, you can't just make it happen....thanks for your kind words fimbles!

It just feels so good to look at the crap in the shops and simply not want it, having spent so long craving it. I definitely think diets do psychologically make you want things more, you instantly feel deprived....and I've had so many evenings when I've stuffed myself because the next day I was starting a diet! It's crazy and it's that sort of thing that made dieting make me put ON weight.

with me the impetus has been coming up to 40......gulp....but it's probably something different for everyone. Huge best wishes to you fimbles and anyone else struggling with this whole issue....

Once you staert cuttign out all crap the thought of eating rubbish makes you feel sick. I've managed to do it twice in my life and lost loads of weight, then had babies and got into bad habits again. Am trying to break the habits but it's so hard. I just automatically turn to soemthing sweet after being good with my main. Determined to get there again though, just not determined enough right now obviously.

EmmyLou · 17/01/2007 14:56

Sugar is definitely my downfall.

Quinoa, salad, fish etc etc blah blah, then stolen sweets from the dds sweets tins, a few choc digestives from my DH's biscuit box and BINGO! A stone or two over weight. And I know I'm doing it. I even do it extra quickly before I can talk myself out of it.

Packets of supercook chocolate chips have also been known to disappear - how gross is that.

EmmyLou · 17/01/2007 15:08

It's often a displacement activity for me. when about to empty then fill the dishwasher for the nth time in my life I'll look for a distraction.

I eat well, local, organic fresh - always cook from scratch. I am well aware of the latest health discoveries/fads and can go without alcohol completely without too much trouble.

I think I need to start writing down EVERYTHING i eat - uncensored. I had 3 ryvita with houmous and olives while cooking tea last night. Might be healthy in one respect, but not when I follow it with tea aswell...

SELF DISCIPLINE...WHERE ARE YOU?????

Fimbles5 · 17/01/2007 15:28

EmmyLou - I'm with you - Why is it that we can cook healthy meals from scratch to ensure the family eat well, and then when they are at work or school stuff ourselves silly with all the bad stuff. Well, new start for me as of NOW sugar does not exist, and crisps are banned. Good Luck to you all.
