I have got DH doing the diet with me. DD eats what we are having generally, but with treats thrown in.

hermykne · 13/01/2007 22:25

hula , dh will not go on one with me!,hes just lost about 6lbs because i had him on rations but it doesnt work for me.

single days - no food in flat.

and with the kids i dont buy treats we make them so baking is a regular occurence so who eats the treats me?
and they deserve a treat for eating all their diinner so i cant not have treats.

its round in circles i go.

Can you join a slimming club? Somewhere where you would get support and not feel on your own.
I've been on Cambridge Diet for a week now (lost 8lb ) and have found the fact that having the CD counsellor there has really helped.
I know what you mean about cooking for others. It is so difficult. I have dh + 9 children. Last night tea was a choice of chicken curry and rice, spaghetti bolognese, sausage rolls, with fruit, fudge cake or bakewell tart for afters and I was the one cooking and dishing it up. I would have really enjoyed tucking into any of those. But this time, I want to shift the weight. All that stuff will still be available when my weight's gone. And then I'll be able to enjoy it without feeling guilty or as though I'm letting myself down.
Having the counsellor there and speaking to people online really does help when the old willpower starts to weaken.
Do it for you. Try to seperate their food from yours in your mind.
Good luck.

Everyone eats what I eat (basic healthy dinners with lots of veg), I just eat much smaller portions - they still get their treats and I munch dried fruit or a few brazil nuts or something to combat the evening munchies.

It's certainly not easy. My mother didn't used to let us eat between meals. There was just no access to any food except at meal times which I suppose was the traditional way and better for everyone.

What we do is just not order many unhealthy foods so if someone wants a snack it's an apple or nothing or whatever. That helps a bit. I've had small childen in my house opening cupboards not believing there are no crisps, biscuits or chocolates in the house - I say go and look and they're amazed. But even so it's difficult. Dh eats the same main meal as me - if I'm cooking it he gets what he's given. If he wants something else he's on his own. Dd has hers separately. If they have a sandwich lunch I have something else and I don't eat the biscuits and cakes and other things I shouldn't. But it's taken going to Slimming World to enable me to have the willpower. The competitive side of me kicked in and I found my motivation.

I follow recipes from the GI diet cookbook. If I think something is going to be too high in fibre for the kids (because they're still small) I adapt it a bit for them. DH gets what I make and if he doesn't like it, he's welcome to make himself some toast.

He doesn't get small portions, he gets big portions but of healthy stuff. For example, last week he came home and asked what we were having for supper. I said 'chermoula chickpea burgers' and he pulled a face that said: God, chick food again.

But they are gorgeous and he proceeded to scoff three of them.

I don't buy any junk - the kids have fruit as snacks or kiddy organix crisps occassionally.

I make my own snacks - like cranberry and bran muffins, freeze them, and if I want a snack, I have one of those.

juuule - you have 9 children ? I somtimes, no make that often, struggle with my 3 and their various school friends who I always seem to end up feeding, but 9 !!!!

juuule · 14/01/2007 17:01

Well, one is only home part time now as he's at Uni.
But I know what you mean about having friends over or the children going to their friends for tea. Can get a bit busy at times.
