I really really can't justify the expense of weekely meetings at the moment, have been dissuaded from doing Atkins (as don't eat meat) but I really want to lose my last half stone before my girls' weekend away in March. Could someone give me a precis on the plan/allowed foods/meal ideas? thanks so much, Dinny

The list is too long but basically fibre and water containing foods are all free

Fresh fruit and veg
Basic breaskfast cereal with skimmed milk
Rice, noodles, non-filled pasta
Lean meat and and poultry
Fish
Low fat dairy products

dinny · 14/01/2007 11:32

thanks, Sue, so can you have as much skimmed milk in tea/coffee as you like?

and can you snack on as much fruit/veg as you like or is it restricted?

Looks as htough fruit, veg and skimmed milk all unrestricted. Skiimed milk is 2 points per half pint so avoid!!

Fruit juice and dried fruit are NOT free.

It suggests eating casseroles rather than grilled meat. If you thiken with flour 20g costs 1 point.

Just watch your post-meal comfrot zone.

You should be able to do half a stone easily by March.

A completely free meal out:

Melon or other fresh fruit or non-creamy soup

Plain, lean, skinless meat, poultry or fish
Salad or Veg
Jacket potato

Fresh fruit salad

Has the points system changed over the years?? I use my books from "Pure Points" in 2000, and for skimmed milk it states 1 point for 1/2pint. And also some fruits have points, and I don't treat them as unrestricted.

I didn't realise they would change the points on foods.

dinny · 14/01/2007 16:52

so is skimmed free? do you mean full-fat is 2 pts per half pint?

It's a new alternative plan. Was NoCount, just renamed to Core Plan. It's quite different to the original points plan.

On Core you get a weekly points allowance for bread, butter, fruit juice, etc. About 21 points, I think.

Or you can go with the Full Count where you get a daily points allowance (the system that's been in place for 15-20 years, I think and which you know as Pure Points).

The Points system was different in Australia to UK, albeit only slightly. E.g. olive oil there was only 1/2 pt, here it's 1 point.

SueW · 14/01/2007 16:54

Sorry!! Semi-skimmed has the points so you should avoid it.

Ready · 15/01/2007 11:12

Thanks for the info Sue. I was panicked for a minute. I always turn to my old pure points when I need to lose a few lbs! And it always does the business, but I did wonder if the points had changed a lot... I always have skimmed milk anyway, but when I read it was more points I thought I'd been overdoing my daily points on this NewYear Healthy Eating Regime I've got going on.

As far as my book shows Dinny, skimmed is not free, it's 1 point per half a pint. For cups of tea I usually just count them as 1/2 a point cos I have a tsp of sugar. So I don't really count the splash of milk. But that's just me, and by no means the right way to do it

SueW · 15/01/2007 18:36

Skimmed is free on NoCount though. Along with a truckload of other things you have to count on 'normal' WW 'Pure Points', Full Count, whatever you call it.

dinny · 15/01/2007 19:52

right, ended up going and joining WW today! so, have the Core plan lowdown now! wish me luck!

So how does this NoCount work then?? Just a brief summary if you have the time?

SueW · 16/01/2007 22:31

Good luck dinny.

Ready, not sure what you want that isn't covered below? It's all about assessing how hungry you are and eating a sensible amount of highish fibre, high-water-content foods over three meals a day.

It might be worth you trying to get along to one meeting - look on the WW site for a register free token - and pay a fiver to weigh in for hte first time, pick up the info and take it from there. You'll get an up-to-date listing of Points and the lowdown on the Core/NoCount plan! And as you know, once you have the info, you can use it at home forever, if you have the willpower to stick to it

Cheers!
