Good morning ladies and a happy new year to you all. Good luck and lets not be too hard on ourselves over the weight most of us will have put on over the festive season. Lets look forward to the weight we are all going to lose this year

Hello (shouldbe nervously enters thread...) Having just polished off almost the last of the Christmas chocolate I think it's time to try to get myself in order and lose some weight. I've been suffering from depression on and off for a while but am trying to get myself back on track. I've joined the FLY thread (waves hello to tort and dimpledthighs). I'm 5ft 7" and last time I weighed myself (don't have scales at the mo)I was 13st 4 ...friends tell me I carry the weight well but I've seen some pics of myself lately and I don't like what I see at all. I have low self esteem and part of my depression shows itself as anxiety about getting out and about some days so I know I'll struggle to join a gym or anything. I need help and encouragement...please. TIA x

tortoise · 07/01/2007 21:25

Hey shouldbe.
Good luck losing weight. We can support each other.I'm sure FLY lady does something to do with weight loss(body declutter?) I need to have a look at that i think!

Is there anyone you could join the gyn with? I couldn't do it alone and hoping snig and i will join local one soon.

shouldbedoingthehousework · 07/01/2007 21:32

Hi tort Thanks...I need a lot of support! I have very little will-power...
I haven't really got anyone I could join a gym with (all my friends seem to be super-slim at the moment ) but dh mended my bike over Christmas so I'm hoping to get some use out of that - we're going to buy a child seat for the back so ds can ride with me. Dh also says we can go swimming together once a week if I can sort a regular babysitter so that'd be good too (need to find a nice costume that fits first)

HeavyBee · 07/01/2007 21:37

That's impressive, EssBee, just make sure you don't dehydrate if you're still ill - hope you're feeling better now! Welcome, Shouldbedoingthehousework! I can't call you that, I could be doing it too, but it's Sunday evening and I'm doing a bit of sewing and a bit of idle internetting .... I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I'd say don't worry about polishing off the Christmas chocolate, just don't make it the everyday chocolate. It'll be good to have you along, I hope you find it helpful.

tortoise · 07/01/2007 21:40

Ooooh I'd love a bike.I don't think 2 child seat on it would work though! And i'd love to go swimming. But thats not an option either! I do alot of walking and have the Davina power of 3 workout DVD but never get round to doing it. oh,and i have the Lateral thigh trainer stepper! Cost me a fortune Used it about half a dozen times.

shouldbedoingthehousework · 07/01/2007 21:42

Thanks Heavybee. My email is shouldbedoinghousework at hotmail dot co dot uk

Anyone recommend any good quality scales I could buy online? I don't have any so if I'm going to do this I think I'll invest in some new ones.

tortoise · 07/01/2007 21:44

Ive got weight watchers ones but it has silly feet for carpet but they don't stay on! Ive lost one so need to find that before I can weigh in this week!

shouldbedoingthehousework · 07/01/2007 21:46

Nearest pool to us is just over 8miles away so will take a lot to get us there on cold wet winter evenings...
You can get child seats for the back and for the front of bikes but doubt you should use both at once ! We did have one when dd was little but I think we lent it to a friend who's since moved away so we'll have to get another. It's very hilly round here so I'll probably push it more than ride at first
Davina's workout dvd made me so stiff I could hardly move! Can't face that till I'm much fitter!

DimpledThighs · 07/01/2007 21:50

hey shouldbe hey tort

I am very pleased with myself as I am 11.10 this morning - I was 11.8 before christmas so not quite back down but doing okay. Big diffrence clearing out all the christmas leftovers and also not having the children round all day makes me eat less. Have joined gym and been to a yoga class and relaxation - not very strenuous but I didn't eat whilst doing them. Also took children swimming as trying to get out and about more.

I get really down this time of year, mainly anxiety and insomnia. I am hoping upping my exercise will help - but thinking of this thread was helpful too!

tortoise · 07/01/2007 21:53

Well done dimpled. Thats a great start. I wish i could get to an exercise class. It would mean i would get some proper exercise. They are all evenings and i just can't do evenings.

Hi everyone, gosh I haven't seen so many messages on this thread for ages. Welcome Willandsamsmum, Liesel, Jampots, Dimpledthighs, Fizzbuzz, Essbee, Shouldbedoingthehousework & welcome back Liv321 (hope I haven't forgotten anyone). I have found this thread to be very helpful, just the thought of weighing myself and posting my weight has kept me from having another biscuit, or another bit of chocolate. I have saved myself so much money, if I had joined a weight loss club it would cost me at least a fiver week. I have found more motivation on this thread than any club and that works for me. Last year I lost and kept off (until Christmas) 10lbs, might not sound a lot but it is 10lbs more than previous years. It is so nice to fit into smaller sizes and to see my old shape reappearing. Anyway enough ranting I'm going to put up a new thread for this week. Good luck everyone.
