Can somebody who follows a low carb diet please give me a typical day/week's menu to get me started?!

i have done two stints on the atkins diet, one 7 months and one 2 weeks. I wd do it again but it is hard with a little one. this is the sort of thing i did. it really, really helps to do a lot of preparation at home and have plenty of things ready to use in the fridge. like any diet i guess, but there is so little low-carb stuff available at the average corner shop for when you are caught short.

so e.g.:

breakfast: 2 x scrambled eggs (started off with butter but no milk)
morning snack; avocado, sliced with oil and vinegar dressing
lunch: grilled chicken breasts stir fried with curly kale
afternoon snack: lump of cheese
dinner; salmon with mayonnaise (salmon steak 3 mins in the microwave with lemon juice) little gem lettuce with oil and vinegar dressing and maybe a couple of cherry tomatoes.
pudding; my mum once did make a diet Lilt jelly as recommended in the book. A good effort but not worth it. Better is syllabub - basically cream with orange juice - maybe also a spoonful of sherry if you happen to have any - or a few strawberries and cream.

Sorry I don't know any more humane low-carb diets.

sorry, just to say that this was fairly early in the atkins diet, so fairly extreme and really essential to drink as much water as they say (at least 2 litres).

Sounds about right but I'd give the pud a miss. It really is best to retrain the taste buds away from sweet things for the first few weeks at least. After that there are things you can do in moderation - sugar-free jelly is quite easy to buy. I would question oj tbh choosy as it's very high in sugar, but strawbs or raspberries and cream is good - but watch the quantities. There are also lc baking that you can do but it's not for induction.

For me on Atkins I started to only have coffee for breakfast which isn't good and I am usually a good breakfast eater.

Have tried eggs in the morning which is okay - just.

Typical day might be:

Boiled egg then coffee with cream and sweetener
Lunch of Tuna mayo on Ryvita, some cheese or seafood salad with dressing
Dinner Pan fried duck breasts with cherry dressing on bed of green salad
Jelly and cream for pud every night - very boring.

Nuts throughout the day along with water or diet fizz cos I am naughty!

choosyfloosy · 01/01/2007 21:26

when i couldn't look another egg in the face i used to move the avocado to the morning and have it sliced with mozzarella cheese - basically a tricolore salad without the toms

I lost 3 stone in 2 months with Atkins but I knew it was not healthy for me I would eat

Breakfast - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or bacon and eggs
lunch - tuna mayo or smoked mackeral or cold chicken
dinner - steak and eggs or salmon

At least you can eat with Atkins. I did Lighterlife for 3 months and lost 4 stone but also lost my hair by the handfull, could have no social life and my breath stank.

Now I am thinking of the diet with the red and green days

OK. Today I have mostly eaten:....

b'fast - grilled bacon, mushroom and hard-boiled agg.
lunch - mixed cabbage salad with a little red onion, a few black olives, ham and peanuts with home-made vinaigrette (the peanuts and red onion aren't really permitted on induction but I've found it doesn't do me any harm in moderation)
dinner - will be roast chicken legs, cauliflower cheese (made with cream not thickened with flour of course) and some more salad.

Coffee and 3 litres of water to drink.
