I struggle with my weight - always! If I don't watch what I eat carefully I get really big and it is only by being really careful that I get anywhere near a size I am happy with.

I have been through stages of being big and not caring and stages of caring and dieting.

I have been 'careful' for a while now but here looms christmas - and with it looms my dilemma. I want to get some others to join me in this - strength in numbers!

So....Do We?

Say sod if from now on in until Jan 2nd and allow ourselves free reign? (so no help needed and join forces in the new year?)

Do we decline every mince pie and chocolate that comes our way for the whole christmas period?

Do the above with the day off on christmas day and boxing day?

Do the above, but accept social food offered at family and friend gatherings?

What are we going to do?

Does anyone want to choose and then combine in a resistance group? If not see you in the new year!

This time of year is SO HARD!

No you go and have fun and stuff the diet. Get more exercise over the holidays - i.e long winter walks etc.

depends how much you want it doesn't it...are you just eating to be polite? and socialise etc? because it's tradition? (Not great reasons in my book) If they are you're friends/family they will understand that you want/maybe neeed to lose weight and with careful management any embarrassing moments could be avoided...

If you want to REALLY lose weight over Christmas, you do not have to go without, but you can watch what you eat, i.e. You DO NOT have to stuff your face. Eat as much as makes you comfortably full, but do not deny yourself anything...I will be eating a bit more chocolate etc.

I hope that makes sense. At the end of the day will you be happy come 2007 and you have put on weight? when all it would have taken was a bit of careful management ?

Personally I know I wouldn't ....at worst I'd like to maintain...

Look at what you want...nobody can answer this for you...

Are you going to be miserable by refusing to eat and drink what everybody else is having? Either way, have a mince pie and a large glass of Baileys and don't worry about it. Start afresh on 3rd January (when everybody seems to be going back to work) and enjoy yourself over the festive period.

Just for the record, I'm going to be on a serious diet in the new year and I know I have the willpower to do it most days. I want to lost 6 stone by November (I'm 30 in November and want to be a comfortable size 16).

See you in the new year!!

I got to goal (using weightwatchers online) last week . Hope to STILL be at goal by beginning of January but am prepared to put some back on and just go back on the diet for a couple of weeks in the new year (not cancelling my subscription just yet iykwim...)
Hope I don't completely blow it though - planning on being good(ish) through the day then let myself have whatever I want in the evening.

It's got nothing to do with miserable at all!!! I will have what I want, but what's teh point of stuffing yourself silly?

I eat chocolate and drink etc along with the best of them, anyone I knwo would tell you that...but moderation is required... why blow the diet out for a week/two and put on up to a stone in some cases?

It comes off so slowly....so why bother to make an effort to put it back on???

Thhink of your goal? and how much further ahead you could be by not stuffing yourself!!!

DimpledThighs · 18/12/2006 20:07

Thanks for the responses. The more I think about it the more I think I will go really careful up until christmas eve - last year I did what I liked over dec and put on the half a stone it had taken me so long to lose.

I agree with tiger - not a question of miserable but surely one of moderate!?!
