It's all gone very very quiet on here
Come on, even if you've been baaaaaddddddd we want to know about it.........

I had the sh*ttiest day yesterday. We woke up to find that not-so-fantastic-mr-fox had torn the throats out of 2 of our cockerels and mortally wounded a 3rd (dh had to finish him off), so I spent half the day skinning and preparing them for the freezer.
We then spent ages blockading the chicken house (which the traumatised birds did not want to go back into), and herding the ones that normally sleep under the caravan into another hen house.
Had been planning on baking edible decorations and generally doing nice Christmassy things w/dd, so she was not best pleased either

Ah well. Such is life, and they were destined for the freezer anyway - it's just that their end should not have been as violent or fear filled. Bloody fox. He didn't even attempt to take them to eat them either just left them in the feather filled garden.

Hey ho. Sorry for that lovely start to your Monday.

Weigh in today, I've stayed the same. Only 5 days to go before I can forget about the diet for a week......yippee!

Am finding it v difficult atm.Have been eating all manner of rubbish and drinking wine and have put back most of the weight I had lost.So am back on induction today and will just do one week!I find drinking LOADS of water gets me over a blip and speeds up the weight loss again xx

Crotchety · 18/12/2006 10:58

Well I'm afraid I have moved into the Christmas Binge earlier than anticipated - ate nothing but carb yesterday, my excuse being that I was at work and they don't have much in the canteen on a sunday, and what with all the compulsory mince pies it's a bit of a lost cause at the moment. The stupid thing is that I don't really like scoffing carby sandwiches etc any more but I still find low carb takes some effort and sometimes it's all I can do to reach for the bread...

You are right about the water Noddy - Must Try Harder.

Sorry about the cockerels Frog. Does the fox just do it for fun then, or because he can't not, rather than because he's hungry?

frogdelalune · 18/12/2006 11:48

Thanks Crotchety.
I think it's like with cats, they do it because that's what they do iyswim my cats will often catch a mouse/vole/mole/bird and just play with it, batting it around. Then they leave it without eating it. Buggers aren't they?

Must, must, must drink more water today.

Sorry about the chucks Froggie . Mum used to keep hers in deep litter - one of the reasons being our resident fox. I think the theory is that he disables as many as poss whilst he can with the intention of coming back for more when he has the chance...only having one mouth and no pairs of hands. No comfort to you though....

I'm officially 'not on a diet' atm . Enjoying the freedom but having one of my frequent body image panics too. I only feel 'safe' when I'm actively trying to lose or maintain. Total freedom terrifies me.... But I'm ok as I now it's limited to a few weeks. So I intend to eat, drink and be merry. Induction beckons in January and oddly I'm looking forward to that too....

ernest · 18/12/2006 14:09

well I've put on 1.5 kilos, even tho I've basically been doing induction, with my only 'sin' being some raisin with some pecan nuts , specifically 2 raisins per nut. I wouldn't mind so much I'f I'd been face down in a barrel of 'choclit', but a handful of bloody nuts and raisins. Bah!

I should do the water more, but I'm constantly dying for a wee.... sorry.

Enjoy your week of freedom everybody. I might go crazy and have a roast potato for Christmas. I'd forgotten to count one od the teachers, so my spare cake was no longer spare, so I never got to try it. Hope it tastes ok, as I'm sending a big one in to dh's work tomorrow... They at least look lovely, if I may say so myself

Hellooooooooooooooo! (hellooooooo!)
I'm here! Nothing to report - scoffing porridge, flapjack and mince pies like a mad woman. Suffering the usual blood sugar spikes! Oh well - have you seen the amount of syrup Nigella pours over everything she cooks for Christmas?

frogdelalune · 21/12/2006 21:22

I'm here too....well just popped in for a moment.

Gawd, what a week! The day after I posted about Monsiuer Reynard killing my cockerels, I glanced out of the window to see two of the remaining three have a mock cock fight, when one of them dropped down dead. Think it must have been a heart attack poor thing.

Then today dh decides it's time the other two "got it" so we can get them in the freezer before we go away.

Gaaaahhhh, it's like Hammer House of Horrors here. This is all on top of me spending most of Sat weighing and parcelling up the eighth of a cow that dh bought off a friend. So.... freezer full of animal carcasses and I've lost my carnivore urges .

Oh, and by the way I'm well and truly out of ketosis for the first time in months after I succumbed to some chocolatey treats dd made at school today, and then compounded my slippage with a humongous home made french bread pizza.
Christmas has arrived in the frog house

NOELallie · 28/12/2006 11:01

I don't want to talk about it >

NOELallie · 28/12/2006 11:03

Actually I do .....I love mincepies and christmas cake and terry chocolate orange and chocolate cake and white bread turkey sandwiches.......

I'm feeling a bit fat now and genuinely looking forward to getting back on track on 2nd Jan (not 1st as we're going out for a meal). I've had stomach cramps and indigestion the whole time but I manfully (womanfully?) carried on eating in the interests of the festive season.

jampots · 28/12/2006 11:05

my scales are broken so dont know how much ive put on over xmas but fear it runs to about 3-4lbs.

can i eat anything other than cake, biscuits, bread, etc ? am I ok with cornflakes>

NOELallie · 28/12/2006 13:43

'Fraid not jampots

Low-carb induction be it Atkins or any other is quite hard-core (so to speak ). Nothing containing sugar either in it's obvious form (cakes, sweets etc) and in it's hidden form (flour, rice, cereals, root veg). Basically you are cutting out almost all carbs for a period of at least 2 weeks to force your body into ketosis - ie the state wherein your body will be burning fat for it's energy needs rather than dietary carbs. It sounds strict and very hard and TBH the first few days/week are - you will feel hungry and deprived and you may even feel a bit 'flu-y' but after that time you will feel fine, have more energy, your appetite will diminish and your cravings will fade away. And most importantly you will almost certainly lose a significant amount of weight in the first 2 weeks. Most of that is water loss but so what.

You will need to eat meat, fish, some cheese, mainly green veg, eggs, cut out alcohol, sugar, and ,milk in your drinks. You must drink at least 3 litres of water a day. You can use oil, butter, mayo on your salads and in cooking. No processed foods. No fruit. No root veg.

It works. It works really well. Some of us on here are permanent low-carbers (although most of us have time off ). It is really a diet for life not just for after christmas ...did you see what I did there? . A copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution or the Charles Clarke book would really help if you are serious.

Good luck. I'm back on induction after New Year too.

frogdelalune · 28/12/2006 19:51

Evening all. Hope you all had a very messy christmas

Welcome jampots, and good luck.
I'd agree with joelallie and recommend that you get a book to help - if you don't understand the principles of low-carb you can actually put on weight

Have not stepped anywhere near a scales, as I know from the tightness around my middle that I've put on..... I'm guesstimating that I've gained about 7lbs
Gaaah, and it took me sooooooo long to get off that damned plateau.

Ah well, come Jan 1st and I'll be back on induction. Peversely I'm quite looking forward to it as I'm feeling bloated, gassy and generally sluggish, and the hunger pangs and rumbling tummy! You forget what it's like don't you? I feel so much better on low carb.

Hi everyone, well after gaining 5 lbs in 3 days of festive eating I'm back on the low carb as of boxing day.Still waiting to go into ketosis but have lost 1lb of it so far,and basically if I actually manage a poo will probably lose more tomorrow.Sorry way too much info there

I definately feel much better on a low carb diet. After eating normal sugary foods I was waking up feeling hungover and lethargic.

NOELallie · 29/12/2006 08:36

I know what you mean ggirl - I keep waking up with a mouth that tastes foul even when I've not drunk any wine. I feel bloated and generally yuck. It really does feel like I've been poisoning myself. But it's been fun - I just think I've reached the point when it stops being fun and started being horrible now.

DH is back on Atkins too come Tuesday so it will be simpler. I also need to start taking exercise again - as dh kindly pointed out most of my problem is flab rather than being too fat ifswim.

Crotchety · 29/12/2006 16:38

Yep I feel bloaty and lethargic as well. But then again I shall have renewed enthusiasm for starting again, probably on Jan 2nd like Noelallie. We have all had a nasty bug here, bit like flu but able to at least get up and sit in a chair! So soup and bread has been ideal for that. I still reckon low carb is hopeless when you need comfort food...

ernest · 30/12/2006 09:10

omg been on a sugar frenzy, 3 kilos up . Happy new year!!
