You've gotta do it though.

Stirfries are great, chilli con carne, good curries.

Make sure everything is wholegrain-pasta and rice.

Smoked and steamed fish excellent.

My current favourite is steamed salmon with soy beans and broccoli in a soy, sesame oil, ginger and chilli dressing.

My mother (who is about an 8) has been avoiding Principles for years as she had it in her head that it was only for the round of rump.

WonderCod · 09/12/2006 18:26

Thanks for the recipe Cod, will definately try that.

foxinsocks · 09/12/2006 18:28

nah sorry cod - have decided to let myself pile on the carbs and then go for losing it all in January. I love festive food too much.

ledodgychristmasjumper · 09/12/2006 18:28

Have a good party. We're swapping the furniture round in our two downstairs rooms i'm up to my eyes in crap and have the worst hangover ever and dp is nagging me to get of the farking computer. I best had.

mancmum · 09/12/2006 18:36

cod, you are on -- could do with a challenge so I will go for this.. am going to do the Kirsch New Yoik diet... starting tomorrow !

Kittypickle · 09/12/2006 18:49

I'm in, I weighed myself this morning and want to lose 10lbs by Jan 9th, so need to keep a very close eye on it over the next month. I'm giving Slimming World a shot but would rather pull my teeth out than go to one of the meetings.

wannaBeOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 09/12/2006 19:58

can I play?

In August I lost 10 lb in six weeks before I went on holiday. Put on 4 lb and have lost those again now but would ultimately like to lose another stone. am 5 ft 2 and weigh 9st 8lb. I don't do specific diets but what worked for me is:

swimming 3 times a week, walking to and from health club which is approx half a mile, plus waslk everywhere else. 30 mins on cross trainer twice a week, but this has to increase when ds isn't at preschool as can't swim then.

foodwise I cut out all the crap, no chocolate, no sweets, no biscuits, no crisps, and try to stick to three meals a day, if hungry during the day I tend to drink water. lots of water is good as helps get rid of all the toxins in the body.

but one thing I would advise is to allow yourself a treat once a week otherwise you will get disheartened and are more likely to give up.

also worth bearing in mind that sometimes if you're exercising a lot you may not necessarily lose the weight but you will lose body mass as the fat is turned into muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat. The jeans I am currently wearing are a size 12, but they are now actually miles too big for me, but I still weigh 9 8, but as well as losing 10 lb my body shape has changed.

hoping to lose at least 4 lb before Christmas, want to be down to 8 stone 8 by May, but obviously would like to achieve that sooner rather than later.

wannaBeOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 09/12/2006 20:02

would also recommend

this site

for looking at your calory intake, you can join on a free trial for three days and that will give you an idea as to how many calories you need to eat to lose a specific amount of weight each week, and you can look to see what calories are in the foods you eat.

you can actually have as many free trials as you like, but it doesn't save your data, but that works for me - better than paying for it

6beetrootsAmilking · 10/12/2006 13:18

easy peasey

stop eating so much lardy

moondog · 10/12/2006 13:18

Do you get hungry?
If so,I'd go for something with more fibre than Special K.
Porridge or All Bran.

noddyholder · 10/12/2006 13:19

atkins!

xena · 10/12/2006 14:01

Special K is crap actually full of sugar. You can't have it as a 'Healthy extra' on slimming world.
I'm weighing myself every morning atm which I know is a bad habit. I'll stop when I reach my ideal weight and then i'll weigh on a monday to decide if I need to diet for the week. anyway cut along story short - great cod recipe cod will find my curry one which is s SW special

kittypickle me too, avoid the meetings -I ask the lovely ladies on the sw thread when I need the weekly password

ledodgychristmasjumper · 10/12/2006 14:42

I agree swap special K for bran flakes or something with lots of fibre.

ledodgychristmasjumper · 11/12/2006 15:59

Well i've already hit a stumbling block. I woke up on Sunday with some horrible virus and am still rough now which puts pay to me doing any exercise atm however I am eating less which may or may not be a bonus.

mancmum · 11/12/2006 16:10

today - porridge/baked eggs and a banana/tonight plain chicken and loads of veg. Swim.

OOh Just seen this well done Cod! I didn't get to slimming world last week to get weighed as I wasn't well but am going tommorrow to see if i've lost anything not holding out too much hopeas have had a few booze filled nights. However I did buy and comfotably fit into a size 14 jeans which to you skinny minnies probably doesn't sound like much but considering I was in a size 20 at the end of August I'm really pleased. i also got my breasts measured and I'm now a 34
E so have gone d0o0wn0 2 back sizes but up
a cup size! I'm now a 38 E. Work that one out.

ledodgychristmasjumper · 19/12/2006 22:22
