DH going on an extreme weight loss programme as part of a clinical trial - ideas on how to support him?

DH is about 3/4 stone overweight with T2 diabetes. He's going on an extreme weight loss diet as part of a trial for 3 months to see if losing weight quickly can 'reset' things (at least, I think that's the science behind it) starting in a fortnight's time. He'll be on shakes for the 12 weeks and regularly monitored/supported - rather him than me, but he is absolutely determined which I admire massively.

I'd like to support and encourage him all I can from the start until finish. Anyone got any ideas on how I can do that? Smile

I did a shake diet for 12 weeks- the hardest part for me was cooking other family members meals. So I would try to do all the cooking for a while (If you don't already?)

How will "real"food be introduced back in? I'd try and find out about that so you can help as much as you can with planning meals etc.

Also, try not to have his favourite foods in the house and not have any very tempting cooking smells - eg bacon

I hope it works - it seems a bit hardcore for 3/4 of a stone though.

Thanks for the ideas Smile. It's 3 to 4 stone though, sorry my fault, not three quarters of a stone.

When does he usually snack/binge (if he does at all)? Find something else to do during those times.

On the drive on the way home - not a lot I can do to take it mind off things then sadly!

I'd get him to look at the Paul Mackenna Way of eating. I lost 3 stone on it eating non diet healthy food. It's how we should all eat and then he'll be able to keep the weight off easily. I'm on it forever and it's not a hardship

The problem with shakes is that my dh put MORE weight back on when he dieted with them, they're not very nice Grin
