Has anyone found that coming off hormonal contraception helped?

Just that really.
I've been on the implant for just over 5 years and before that I was on depo injections for about 2 years. When I met DP I was 17 and a size 10 [sobs] and started the injection about 5 months in. 8 years later I'm somewhere between size 16 and 20 Blush and obviously I know that it's because I eat a lot of crap but I also wonder if the hormones have a little something to do with it as well.

This implant runs out in June and I won't be replacing it, we get married in Jan 2017 and will likely start trying for a baby soon after. I'm interested to see if I find it easier to lose weight once it's out - I'm a week into using MFP on 1200 cals a day and have cut out bread, pasta and coke so it's not like I'm sitting around waiting for a miracle Grin

So did anyone lose more easily without the implant or injection??

Absolutely!

I've been on hormonal contraception of various types (different pills, Mirena and Nuvaring) with some small breaks in between for over 25 years. Whenever I changed so did my weight. Earlier this year I put on 1.5 stone within 6 weeks of starting back on Nuvaring as I couldn't stop eating as was hungry all the time.

4 months ago I changed from Nuvaring to a copper coil. The hunger stopped abd whilst I've dieted to lose weight it's been so much easier. I'll never ever go back to hormonal contraception.

Thanks for replying! I'm very tempted to have my implant out sooner but I don't want to get pregnant yet as that will defeat the object of losing weight for the wedding Grin we both hate condoms but we might just have to deal with it!

Have you lost a lot in the last 4 months then, if you don't mind me asking?

Well if anyone is reading Grin I've made an appointment to have my implant out next Friday so will soon see if it makes any difference.

I hate hormonal contraception because of this and it turns me into a devil! I noticed a change as soon as I came off it Smile Condoms are great these days, strong but thin so can't feel the difference.

Yes. I've lost the weight I put on (1.5 stone) and am keeping going to lose some more.

Am not a fan of condoms either. So I went for a copper coil. First couple of months were heavy and painful but this month's been fine so really pleased I stuck it out.

It can take a few months for the hormones to leave your body though. However I felt 'different' (positively) pretty quickly.

Brilliant, seems like I've made the right choice in having it out then! I'm very interested to see how I feel with no extra hormones raging around my body
