Scales which show weight loss or gain, but not weight?

Hi
I want to get fitter and lose some weight, but I'm really phobic about knowing how heavy I am.
Can anyone suggest where I can buy scales that track and show the weight changes, but not my actual weight?
I don't mind what unit.

(I found an advert for 'Quantum Scales' in the USA but can't find any to buy here).
Thanks. X

Sounds interesting but how will you know by how much you have lost or if you gained, how much you have gained. Just wondering.

They take a weight reading, don't show it but then track your gain or loss from that point.

Would using the bog standard digital scales and setting them to kilos help?

Am currently on weight loss journey Grin - according to the scales I weigh just shy of 80kg, but that means nothing to me so I can gain or lose without psychological baggage IYSWIM.

I see what you mean, but I think I'd know the conversion.

Can you set the scales to zero and track your progress from there?

Can you get some WiFi scales (Fitbit/withing etc) and hook them up to trend weight?

You could stand on the scales backwards so you don't see the weight. On Trendweight you can choose to view total weight, Fat %age, total fat and total lean. The latter three don't show your weight. It also smooths the curves for you so you see the trend rather than obsessing about daily fluctuations.

Is there someone else you trust, friend/partner etc, that could weigh for you?

When I did SW some people didn't know their weights, the group leader did but just told them the amounts lost each week

LovesPeace · 17/07/2015 23:37

I don't know - I'm not really interested in the % body fat, lean etc, just the weight change.

And no - I live alone, can't attend slimming world or anything.

Tbh I don't even know my BMI, as I have no idea about my weight at all. I'm probably quite heavy but then I'm 5'10 - not sure what I should be.

what about tape measuring once a fortnight www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=1281 you could record your results in mfp to keep track

ErrolTheDragon · 18/07/2015 00:25

Low tech solution - Find something heavy but of unknown weight then always weigh yourself holding that. Then you could work out the difference in readings but not know your absolute weight.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/07/2015 00:30

The alternative if you're scale- phobic is to use a tape measure - it's a good idea anyway to check waist (should be no more than half of your height.)
If you're exercising you could be getting leaner and healthier without losing weight so inches can be a better measure than pounds.

LovesPeace · 18/07/2015 11:08

Errol, you are a genius. Smile
Having tried that - my waist is about half my height measure so I need to lose a bit of blubber. I've just been working so much overtime (on a computer) that I've been sedentary (and eating chocolate Grin ).
Thanks for all the help and ideas.

That does sound a really cool Dragons' Den idea, OP!
