Could I just ask a quick question?

Why is it that this whole section is devoted to eating/not eating ... and not at all to exercising?

I have 14 pounds to lose before I can wear anything in my closet, and would love some support ... but have never been able to lose weight by dieting ...

Hi Marls - the section's devoted to weight loss, in whatever form that takes - either eating differently, or exercising. I think there are threads on exercising, but agree that in the main when people think of weight loss it's usually by thinking about what they eat and how to do it differently.

I'm losing weight at the moment, mainly through going to Weightwatchers and changing what I eat, but also through doing bits of exercise (not much!!!). What kind of exercise are you thinking about doing?

I've just always exercised ... it's so much a part of who I am ... I know without it I can't drop weight ... since I have no willpower at all when it comes to food. Mostly running (since age 11) and weights (for about 8 years). If there were a good yoga class where I live I would do that too ... I do it at home on my own instead, but not very often.

What about you?

Well I'm completely unfit... Wish I could run as it always looks like a lovely thing to do - in the Spring/Summer! I tend to just to exercise videos at home. I did start going to the gym last year and did some walking - a couple of miles a couple of times a week - and loved it, but I've got a bit of a heart problem at the moment (which funnily enough involves having to go on treadmills and get very out of breath!) so I'm a bit wary until I get the all clear, to do too much.

Dotty - So sorry to hear about your heart problem. That must be very frustrating. I hope that you get the clear soon!

Running is fun, if you find your rhythm ... I can't go without having a music player strapped on.
I recall hating it when I took it up at 11. But if I wasn't on cross-country then I'd have to go to gym class ... and I didn't want to do that; thank goodness for peer pressure! By 13 I rather liked it.

Have to say thanks - so much - for just chatting. Have felt like something of a pariah on this whole segment of threads ...
