Low gi is quite easy to slot into normal life, once you know the rules and sugar is what it's all about.

have a shuft Here it's quite an informative site. as is The Tesco site. Puff lost a huge amount (4-5 stone!!) on this diet!!! maybe she'll be along in a minute to advise you more.

Low GI is the ideal diet for people at risk of diabetes. Or diabetics, from what I know.

How bad were the results? Are you diabetic? Or borderline?

misdee · 09/11/2006 09:23

range they wanted was 3.5-6. my result was 6.2 so just borderline.

want to avoid medication if possible.

Well, yes. If you can manage your blood sugar without meds, that's the best. You're quite young, iirc, and type 2 diabetes is really hard on your body, longterm. So if you can get your blood sugar results down a lot, and avoid diabetes now, that's a really good outcome.

(I'm going to be type 2 diabetic later, but I'm hoping it will be quite a bit later.)

yes am young, 26years old. but am severly obese

really need to do this properly. i guess as i at risk young, i have a long time to change my eating habits completely, unlike my mum, who will still slip now and then, and cant seem to keep things under control atm.

so low GI book needed, and lots of recipies.

I think low GI can be quite filling, and leave you with energy etc. I'm quite big myself (16? used to be 18), and find low GI diet and lots of exercise suits me.

I too am severely obese (have just gone from 20st to 18.5). I have been following a low carb diet and keeping to less than 100g per day. Didn;t want to cut them out completely.

Look up syndrome x on the web. There are useful results there. My glucose is 4 at the moment, but I have a long way to go on the weight front. I find it very hard to exercise too and find time for myself with DD and DTs.

Good luck and maybe we can support each other, as well as everyone else.

I found www.radiantrecovery.com quite helpful, very gradual elimination of sugar (not that I've got through to the end point yet). I'm quite a sugar addict. Just don't do it all at once. Go slowly.
