How do you cope with other peoples negative opinions about your diet and weight loss?

I'm about to start the 'controversial' and upsetting for some Cambridge diet and as I have around fifteen shoes to lose, I will look very different by Christmas and I'm also dreading the looks of shock and expectations for me to tell them HOW I lost weight.

I wish people wouldn't assume I had a Gastric Bypass or make any comment at all about my body. Just ignore it, I don't want to talk about it Angry

It would be quite rude of people to quiz you about this.
I'd say something along the lines of , ' oh it makes me awfully self conscious talking about it, so how's things with you?'
Just deflect, none of their bloody business anyway.

OftheTwilighttheDarkness · 26/04/2015 11:52

Don't tell people how you did it, just say ate less moved more and leave it at that.

thehumanjam · 26/04/2015 11:54

You don't have to tell them the ins and outs of how you lost weight, thats your business.

If people ask how you did it just tell them that you cut your calories and increased your activity levels. If they are negative say that you wanted to be healthier and feel better about yourself.

Hi Soley I think you don't need to disclose your method (cambridge) as long as you don't do heaps of socialising

Bat away comments along lines of But How by saying you are cutting down, small plate etc and turn convo to other person

Also it's okay to say I don't appreciate comments about my personal appearance thankyouverymuch

Good luck - a VLCD is hard but effective.

MangoJuggler · 26/04/2015 11:56

Wowsers at all of us saying the same.

IrenetheQuaint · 26/04/2015 11:59

Gosh, don't worry about that now, if you do succeed in losing 15 stone then the happiness you'll feel will massively outweigh any social annoyances.

Good luck!

SoleSource · 26/04/2015 12:03

Thank you everyone Thanks

I remember when I lost ten stones nine pounds after eight months, I had one 'friend' ordering me to tell a group of parents at DS's Saturday club how I did it. It was my duty!! I walked away. One neighbour convinced I had had gastric bypass.

I guess being very fat is worse and although upsetting I need to stop being dramatic and worried about this sort of thing again.

I shall use your quotes Grin and refer back to this thread.

Have I read that right? You haven't lost the weight yet, no one has made any comment or assumed that you had surgery but you are worried about that happening in more than 6 months?

I don't want to sound rude, but stop worrying about what other people think of you, don't tell anyone anything if you don't want to, and just worry about you.

Your op also reads a bit like stealth advertising for whatever diet that is (I've never heard of it), how do you even know that it's the right diet for you? Or is it the magic, works for everyone type thing?

MangoJuggler · 26/04/2015 12:10

Aussiemum, solesource has previously done the diet and people were rude and she is working out strategies to avoid similar this time around

(Sorry for speaking for you, Soley)

SoleSource · 26/04/2015 12:11

Thank you Mango, :)

Stealth advertising? Lol.

I have a friend who did have a secret bypass. No one guessed although a few people congratulated her on losing lots. I think very overweight people often dress in a way which hides their size so you might find people hadn't realised how much you had to lose

Ok, so now I know what it is. Is it what you did last time OP? It obviously worked for you to lose a large amount of weight.

I'm guessing if you get criticism it's because it's not sustainable or changing your habits long term so many people on it will regain the weight and yo-yo.

It's your choice though and you don't have to tell anyone.

Aussiemum78 · 26/04/2015 12:20

Other forums get stealth advertising posts! Lol

SoleSource · 26/04/2015 13:25

It's not sustainable? How do you know?

I have done the cambridge diet successfully once before.

I only gain weight when on medication i.e contraception or to manage another condition. When not medicate I can happily sustain a 9 stone figure with ease. I am unable to exercise due to a medical condition so fine the Cambridge diet the only way to lose the weight. I am now at my heaviest, due to another course of medication, and embarking on it again. All this means that CWP is most definitely the right weight loss method for me.

My go to response is 'I'm sorry, you must have misunderstood, I wasn't asking for your opinion' and then change the subject.

In general I only tell people if they specifically ask - like, can you come out for dinner etc. I wouldn't discuss with acquaintances as its difficult to resist the urge to just say 'fuck off'.

I luckily work in an office with blokes who don't give a flying fuck whether I'm tucking into a tetra or a sausage role at lunch.
