Bingeing/mad bonkers attitude to food

I am a good 3 stone overweight. This morning was (yet another) new start.

Brek: 2 egg omelette cooked in tsp of coconut oil
lunch: 50gr of roast chicken, half an avocado, salad vegs, tsp oil
2.20: snack of apple slices in peanut butter.

Started to feel ravenous half a hour ago & just finished eating countless mini Easter eggs, 2 large white bread rolls with cheese, salami & mayo, spoonful of nutella from jar, 2 brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, biscuit.

I have a problem. It's like there's a hungry monster in me. Have lost all touch with normal eating. Did I eat too little before the binge? What's normal? how do I stop doing this?

Don't worry - just continue eating healthily from now on and don't let it get to you - everyone has slip ups!

I would recommend making lots of healthy snacks in advance - eg. Veggie sticks and a dip, cherry tomatoes to nibble on etc. I'm not sure if you were aiming to go low carb, but wholegrain carbs such as brown rice or wholegrain bread might be good to add to your meal.

I always try to have healthy snacks to hand to avoid eating chocolate when I'm tired in the afternoon!

JaneFonda · 13/04/2015 17:10

I would also recommend having a bit more for breakfast - you could have a slice of brown toast, some smoked salmon etc. as two eggs isn't much!

Thanks so much for your sane and sensible reply.
Having healthy snacks on hand/upping wholegrains is (now you've pointed it out, of course) two obvious things to do - I hardly have anything other than biscuits... I'll beef up breakfast too...

I do the same-you need to get rid of the chocolate and the White rolls etc. so they're not even there to tempt you.
Mind you-I still prowl the kitchen searching for something to eat and usually find something-I've resorted to glacé cherries and cooking chocolate before.
5:2 is good too as it suits my 'all or nothing' personality.

badRoly · 13/04/2015 19:45

I could have written your op, I had a couple of attempts at 5:2 fasting days before the Easter holidays to see how I coped with it.

I was surprised at how well I felt and plan give it a proper go as I think I have an 'all or nothing' personality.

I also find it best to not buy in the crap in the first place although like previous posters, it's impressive how enterprising I can be Blush

I did lose 2 stone on Slimming World (but can't go to classes anymore so have fallen well and truly off the wagon) and factored in an evening snack of a Special K chewy delight bar and 2 Babybel as my 'synfree' treat!

Oh goodness hotty I just picked up the cooking chocolate, fondled it carefully, thought about it and then put it back in the baking basket.

OP I'm the same. I too have at least 3 stone to lose. I feel like I'm addicted to junk food. I did 5:2 Fast Day 1 today and have a bit of a sore throat (which I often get when I cut back on junk food), and I'm tired. I ate enough dinner but now I'm craving wotsits and red wine Blush Gah!

This is me. I am the hunger monster! I know that I'm not hungry, it is totally psychological/emotional. Has anyone tried the hypno gastric band thing??

sirmione · 13/04/2015 19:58

Hotty, glace cherries & cooking chocolate sound quite classy compared to some of my more shameful moments...
bad, was actually considering SW as I think I need a bit of 'structure' - I'd have to do it online though as am far, far away from any meetings. 2 stone is impressive - d'you recommend SW as compatible with a mad bingeing type person?

I would be interested in the hypno thing.
The only thing that saves me from being overweight (although I'd like to lose a stone) is exercising-I run about 30km a week.

sebsmummy1 · 13/04/2015 20:00

Oh yes, been there. I've just started WW and I am loving their points system. It has made me see where the calories were being consumed - for example I had no idea that lean meats would really rack up the points if I ate lots. I had it in my head that carbs were bad and protein was good. I can also account for things like biscuits (two today) which was a former binge food as I felt guilty as they were a 'bad' food. So far it's been a breath of fresh air and really easy. Obviously it's only my first week so I am not annoyed and frustrated yet lol.

sirmione · 13/04/2015 20:11

'good' to know that I'm not the only one who feels like this (though obv wouldn't wish bingeing habit on anyone). I am the largest person in my circle of friends/acquaintances & I often wonder why I can't seem to get it together & everyone else can. Also, DC have really started to notice that I'm bigger than their friends' mums....

Sorry, went off foraging and found a packet of Lidl chocolate hobnobs Blush

The SW worked for me as it was pretty much unlimited foods that I could eat with the DC - pasta, rice, jacket potatoes, wedges, lean meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

I liked going back to cooking from scratch but it does need planning well to work properly I think. I did try a different group for a bit but didn't like the style of the SW rep who ran it. I'm hoping to stop gaining (and ideally start losing) between now and September when I can go back to the original group I was in.

sirmione · 15/04/2015 21:35

thanks v much for the SW info bad - anything that involves 'unlimited foods' is right up my street - clearly
