I have been fat for a decade. I have been sad for a decade but nothing has motivated me into loosing the weight. I'm currently heavier than I've beer been including when pregnant!

I've joined weight watchers, slimming world (Both several times) joined the gym, tried VLCDS, just eating healthy. I can't stick at anything.

I've been humiliated (I read lots of people's kick into success started with that) but it just causes me to comfort eat.

I feel pretty hopeless to be honest.

I guess I just want to know if anyone has struggled like me but finally made it!

Yes. 20 years of diets, WW etc, thinking fat and calories are the enemy, constant yo-yo of weight and weight increasing over time.

What has worked? Low carb, high fat/ paleo/ primal (all variations on the same theme). More than 6 stones lost a number of years ago.

My number 1 tip - google Marksdailyapple blog, and read it.

Then give it a month of your time, it could change your life :)

I was just about to come on and say the same as rawcoconut Smile I tried everything without success, am now doing low carb/high fat and it's changed my life. Looking back, I think I may have had some sort of insulin resistance thing going on that stopped me losing weight and lchf has sorted that out. I'm now losing steadily (2 stone since January) the food's lovely and have no problems sticking with it.

What does that consist of? Is it like Atkins? I don't really like meat (Eat alot of Quorn replacements, not because I am vegetarian but just because I don't enjoy meat at all).

The emphasis is on real, minimally processed food.

Lots of green leafy stuff, some higher carb veg, some fruit but not too much, some nuts and seeds.

Lots of natural fats ie minimally processed, still on the fish/animal/plant it grew on. Butter and cheese if you are ok with dairy (some paleo purists say only raw dairy, or none at all). Lots of fish and seafood.

Eggs - as many as you want.

Few, or preferably no grains at all, and nothing that says "health low fat" on the box!

It is possible to do this woe veggie, but a lot easier if you are a meat eater. If you just don't like the taste... Maybe try some new meats or methods of cooking? Maybe you'll find something different you like.

Atkins is ketogenic/LCHF. It's a myth that Atkins is just eat loads of meat and no veggies. The recommended portion size is no more than 100 - 150g meat/fish/eggs per meal plus your carb allowance is supposed to be used on veg. However, Atkins is just one way of doing it, there are plenty of others.

I'm not vegetarian but there are a lot of veggies doing Atkins/low carb.

Yy profyaffel, I started on Atkins but evolved to paleo (dropped the grains basically), for Health reasons to do with allergies/intolerance.
Many think Atkins is all meat and nothing else.

There's a lot of animosity towards Atkins out there. I found it really helpful for portion sizes, if you follow their recommendations it delivers a ketogenic diet. Really useful in the early days when it's confusing.
