So, I've been 'gentle' 5:2ing for a year, started running (C25k) in January 2014 - I ran the Race For Life 5k in May in 34 minutes (having not run since I was 6) and now run

what do you want advice with?

Desmoulinsonatable · 28/03/2015 10:31

5k at least twice but usually 3 times a week. I have dropped 2 dress sizes (18/20 to 14/12) and lost about 7 inches off my waist and an entire spare tyre. But virtually no weight lost i am still 13 stone which Is demoralising.I have probable PCOS and other gynae issues. Anyone else? Feeling a bit fed up

weight loss isn't the only measure of getting fit/slim

You will replace fat with muscle, which weighs more - so you an't use it as the only indicator.

You will find that if you keep up your exercise and sensible eating, you will continue to lose cms, and eventually weight :)

Have realistic expectations and be patient :)

Well, it's a lot better than losing weight but not inches!

gamerchick · 28/03/2015 11:31

Chuck the scales out and go by your clothes. You'll do your head in.

tribpot · 28/03/2015 11:43

Well said, Trills! I am gutted for you, dropping two dress sizes, OP Wink

You sound like you're doing really well so far - you must feel a lot better for it? Keep it up!

Milllli · 28/03/2015 12:52

Muscle weighs more than fat. Well done .

BreeVDKamp · 28/03/2015 12:55

I'm 13 stone but look brilliant! Because I am v fit (although currently 8 months preg. But this was pre-preg). Why do you care how much you weigh? You must look like you weigh less than you do if you're a 12-14, so why worry?

BreeVDKamp · 28/03/2015 12:56

Meant to add, sounds like you've done really well this far!! Good for you.

Desmoulinsonatable · 28/03/2015 14:18

Thank you all. I am delighted and I do look different I know. Grin Running is amazing and has changed my life. I just wondered if the lack of weight loss might be related to the PCOS.

A lb of fat is still the same as a lb of muscle contrary to popular belief of muscle weighing more. However fat takes up a whole lot more space than muscle. Perhaps you have lost quite a bit of fat but gained muscle. I think you will eventually see it on the scales but for now, it sounds like you've made a huge difference to the shape of your body, carry on with the tape measure method of assessing progress. One thing perhaps worth investing in is scales that measure body fat.

00100001 · 28/03/2015 16:13

well obviously a pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle... Hmm Grin

Trills · 28/03/2015 16:15

A pound of lead weighs the same as a pound of popcorn, but you wouldn't complain at someone saying that lead is heavier than popcorn.

"How heavy something is" is a function of weight per volume.

Milllli · 28/03/2015 18:10

Yes of course I phrased that rather badly. Muscle has greater denisity and takes up less volume than equal amount of fat. Anyway OP you are doing well.
