Have gained a stone in a year from 10 to 11 I originally put it down to not exercising eating more etc but now after a concerted effort of tracking my food on mfp doing c25k and two pt sessions a week I have lost nada over 6 weeks ! Gutted is not the word however I think I have an underactive thyroid no sex drive tired gaining weight pre menopausal and my friend prescribing nurse noticed my thyroid was enlarged. Can anyone be positive about their experiance please did they ever lose the weight and I'm worried I will be borderline and therefore not able to be prescribed thyroxine please help x

Sorry nothing useful to add but wanting to follow as I also suspect I have a thyroid problem that my dr will not acknowledge and it is hampering all my best efforts to lose weight.

I have hypothyroidism and I've lost weight. It isn't easy but then again, it never was! I've been on meds for years and actually lost 3 stones when it had gone underactive again (practice had misread my results). I thought the weight would melt off when I first started thyroxine but unfortunately not so. A doctor I know believes that the metabolic effects of hypothyroidism account for less than a stone weight gain, on average, but that bad food and exercise habits creep in when someone is chronically tired and those habits might be hard to break. That was true for me. I lost weight initially with weight watchers but 5:2 works well for me, plus cutting right down on sugar and refined carbs.

When if I've had a break from exercising I always gain or plateau for at least a couple of weeks when I restart, from fluid retention. Have your measurements changed? And have you made a GP appointment yet? If your thyroid looks / feels enlarged that needs checking out.

Am checking Dr Thursday have name of private gp if no luck with mine. With your tiredness did that improve with thyroxine ? I'm hoping it gets sorted out soon very fed up gaining a stone despite doing a lot of exercise and monitoring my food for six weeks !

i have a underactive thyroid and over weight, unless i am very strict with what i eat (my diet isnt the best anyway) and exercise like mad i put weight on easily
getting put on thyroxine isnt the quick or easy fix can take ages to feel normal

I lost weight through lighter life kept it off for 3 years then from sept to Christmas gained a stone was really determined to kick the stone back from where it came from but my best efforts have not worked. I'm going to see what Dr says and then replan my attack I'm worried my metabolism will never get right again ??

I lost a stone vey quickly once my Medication kicked in.They start you off on a low dose and increase gradually Took about 3 m to normalise .And about the same to stop feeling so deathly tired-it's the sort of tired when you feel you cannot get out of a chair (I was 53 and thought it was a combination of challenging work project and stress over DD1 settling at Uni) But the rest of the weight took a lot longer to shift and I struggle to keep it off.
