How much do I need to lose

Hi all. I had my wake up call a month or so ago when an old friend we hadn't seen for 6 months or so pointed out that I'd got fat. My husband has also recently started squeezing my rolls of overhang! He's doing it fondly so I can't complain. I'm 67kg and 5'9" so my BMI is squarely in the middle of normal. I exercise every day and eat healthily (probably just too much). I'm not concerned for my health but I am concerned for the safety of my size 12 jeans which look ok standing up but pretty shocking sitting down. My problem is I don't know what weight I was before the weight gain as I never used to weigh myself. I can add a picture of the muffin top if it's allowed - how much do I need to lose to be OK again in size 12 jeans?

If you're in the middle of a healthy bmi then it's not weight you need to lose, it's those jeans! Grin

I can't edit to remove the picture! It's a bit grim now it's done - thought it would show as a link!

My god. I've just played around with BMI calculator - I can lose a stone and a half and still be a healthy BMI. Jeeeezus this is going to be a lot of lettuce.

Healthy BMI is 18.5 to 24.9 for white people, 18.5 to 23 for other races.

That tummy does not look like BMI of 22

Jeans sizes are not a guide because size 12 now is the same measurements as size 16 in the 1970's

Best bet : start controlling portion sizes, cut out the snacks, do some toning and see where you end up

squiddlydee · 02/03/2015 16:11

Ha! OMG - even more awful - my scales might be wrong then!

I have to say, as someone who has spent the last three years losing several stone, if a friend pointed out to me that I had 'got a bit fat', that friend would be off my Christmas card list.

If your DH is being loving about it and not complaining, then do what you want to do to feel comfortable. My friends and my DP couldn't give a shiny shit what size I am, as long as I'm happy.Grin

I'm on my phone, so I can't see your pictures, but it sounds more like you could maybe tone up a bit, rather than lose actual poundage. Or just think about half a stone to ease your waistband. All easily manageable.

squiddlydee · 02/03/2015 17:13

I was a little horrified by the friend - it must be said - but laughing it off seemed the best solution! In good news - the horror of taking such a bleeding awful photo has prevented me from eating anything all day.

Oh, please don't go down that route!Shock Just eat properly, eat a sensible amount and make sure it's proper food, not processed crap or highly fatty/sugary foods. Think to yourself, meat and two veg with lots of fruit in between. See it as detoxing. Throw as much fresh stuff at your body as possible and look at yourself in a week's time.

Silverstreaks · 03/03/2015 08:20

At that height and 66kilos you are not fat. You are soft around the middle and you can do something about that.
Don't tinker with your weight it will set you up for misery in the future. Your friend is being rude.

Tanaqui · 03/03/2015 17:07

I think that is some loose skin - do you have dc? Focus on toning, heavy weigh lifting is very good, if boring!

squiddlydee · 03/03/2015 17:37

Thanks for the supportive words all. I do have dc but was in better shape afterwards so I'm pretty sure it's just flab Wink . Toning, core strength, less focus on cardio and less wine and cheese it is Blush.

How about working with a tape measure rather than scales if you're not sure the scales are accurate. A dress size 12 is a 30" waist. If your wardrobe is size 12 and too tight (it does look a bit tight Grin), then buy a few size 14s and aim for a 30" waist. 35" is deemed unhealthy.

Runningupthathill82 · 08/03/2015 15:08

I don't think buying bigger jeans is going to help the OP shift that weight from around her middle.
OP - you may have a bit of flab to shift, but not that much in the great scheme of things - and you've noticed now, which is great, rather than having put even more on.
I would prescribe MFP set at 1200 cals a day, three running sessions a week, a couple of Body Pump classes a week for toning and - most of all - no processed crappy low-fat diet food!

squiddlydee · 08/03/2015 18:09

Thanks! I dug out the wii fit as I realised that had my previous weight on it. The answer is.... Drum roll.... 12lbs. Blush.

As you say, at least I know now before it's any worse. I've packed away the bikinis for a few months Smile.

That was an excellent idea.Grin And while it's out, do some of the yoga stuff based on your abdominals.

How's the eating going? Doing it sensibly? Don't go the starvation route, your metabolism just switches to match it. Remember, lots of fruit and veg. 12lbs should take no time at all.Smile

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 09/03/2015 10:48

Drink lots of water too, and veg is better than fruit. Can't see your pic but doesn't sound like it will take long to get where you want to be

squiddlydee · 09/03/2015 13:53

So far so good. Reduced carbs and fat. Lots of fish, poultry and veg. Dropped a few pounds. Feeling quite positive!

Yay. I love it when the good vibes start to work.
