Not in a great place right now but must lose weight. Anyone tried Victoza/Liraglutide, and will GP prescribe?

Hello everyone, i'm having rather a rough time of things at the moment and eating a lot more than I should. Have always had problems with my weight, but I did lose 10 stone a good few years back and though I have regained a lot of it back now, I have not gone back to the size 30 dress size that I was then. Saying all that, I'm not far away from it again and if I carry on like this then I know it will just get harder and harder.

My appetite is BIG and I love sweet things so I could do with help to control these things and have been reading about the Victoza/ Liraglutide injection. I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it is worth asking my GP, but I am not sure if doctors are prescribing it here yet. Any advice or info on this would be great.

Please don't get me wrong as I am not looking for a quick fix, I have always had a problem with my appetite and have even looked at the possibility of surgery, but it sounds a little drastic and scarey for me. I know quite a bit about diets, calories etc but I really need a helping hand at least to start with.
My main goal is that I want and need to give up smoking but I know I will gain weight once I do that, so its very important to tackle this now.
Any help please? :-(

it seems to be a treatment for type 2 diabetes - which you may of course have by now. It won't stop you eating sweet things. The Americans are reporting some possible weight loss effects but it doesn't seem to be licensed in the UK for this.

the only way is the obvious way; stop buying crap. If it isn't there you can't eat it.

no need to put on weight when you give up smoking; get yourself something else to do to fill in the gap when you would previously have stunk-up. Food will taste so much better too.

good luck. And also with the other issues.

It's prescribed for diabetes, so no you won't be prescribed it purely for weight loss.

Your appetite may be big but you need help to deal with this. Appetite isn't the same as hunger.
