Call me vain, but I'm trying to work out how much weight I will need to lose after having my baby, I have put on 2 and a half stone so far...

Can any one tell me how much weight I'm likely to lose after I have had my baby e.g in terms of fluid lost, weight of baby , placenta etc, I've put on 2 & a half stone so far at 34 weeks, & now weigh about 13 & a half stone. Can anyone give me a rough estimate?

I was too knackered to weigh myself but certainly looked a lot slimmer , prob about a stone? Your weight gain sounds normal and it tails off towards the last weeks. TBH no pint worrying about it. maybe try and eat healthily porridge for breakfast instead of toast, fruit instead of chocolate for snacks that kind of thing. think there are books on how to eat during pregnancy that would prob go over how much you can expect to loose after giving birth.

Sorry i meant baby and placenta weigh about a stone but that might be a badly recalled fact. How much you will need to loose depends how tall you are etc.

20 - 24 pounds is the 'usual' weight gain - so anything after that is likely to be surplus fat....but tbh...it differs...

i put on 20 pounds ....my SIL put on 50 !!!!

and you might have a whopping baby!

concentrate on eating well, lots of fruit & veg, protein, and drink lots of water......and don't worry about the weight....and DO NOT diet immediately after birth, especailly if you are breast feeding....

I put on 2 and a half stone, and lost a stone of that within days of giving birth. My dd is 5 months old and I am struggling to get the last stone++ off. I am breast feeding, but don't believe the hype about being able to eat what you want if you BF, in my experience (i.e. me and my mates) it's all down to genetics. I have friends who were literally back to their normal weight in a week (sickening, I know!) and friends who tooka year to lose it, and both BF. I have heard that some people don't lose the weight until they STOP BF, possibly cos we all see it as an excuse to eat loads.....remember, the women in poorer 3rd worls countries manage it, and they don't have chocolate!

I was in exactly your position almost - I put on 3 stone full term and was about 13 1/2 stone. My dd is now 13 weeks, I am bf and am down to 11 stone having done no exercise except walking regularly with her. Need to lose the extra stone still but will start exercising a bit more in a month or two depending how I feel. I think it takes a few months and in that time you are far too busy to worry too much about your hips - well almost! Good luck with it all.

I have no idea about stones and pounds but in kilos, I think I lost about 5 kilos almost immediately. The other 10 kilos took substantially longer to lose.

northerner · 26/10/2006 15:19

Think I lost about a stone immediatley, then as I could only be arsed to eat weetabix for the first 6 weeks the weight just fell off!

Mumptious · 26/10/2006 15:54

I put on about 2.5 / 3 stone too. The first 1.5 went within the first week or so and then the rest looks set to take ages. I have had a nasty bout of gastric flu which shifted quite a few pounds.... I felt naff but it got me back into my skinny jeans.

My ds is six months and I am closer to my pre-baby weight than ever but I look and feel totally different as everything is softer and oddly distributed. I have horrific muffin tops which hang over my waistband and of course a squashy tummy.

I am still bf which doesn't seem to help except for giving me the excuse to eat what I want. I think the gym might be the only solution... unless anyone knows a cure for back fat????

liquidclocks · 26/10/2006 16:05

I put on 2 and a half stone with DS1 and needed to lose just over stone at the 6 week mark. I never lost it but with DS2 now 5 weeks I'm at exactly the same point - I only put a stone and a little bit on with him.

Don't count your post baby weight as 'real' until you reach 6 weeks as you'll probably lose a lot in water as yuor body gets used to not being pg again.

I found Pilates very good for getting my muscle tone back - no good for weight loss (or maybe it was all the choocies and day time tv...)

katyjo · 26/10/2006 16:09

I was 65kg (about 10.5 stone) when I fell pregnant, the last time I weighed myself before ds was born I was 84kg (about 13.5 stone - I think) I had lost 10kg (1.5 stone) when I came back from hospital 2 days post delivery. I have lost another stone in the last few months but I still have another stone to lose before I am back to my pre-preggers weight! Don't worry too much, and if you are brestfeeding you will find your weight goes up and down a bit.
