I need to loose about 4kg, I know this isn't much but I'm only short so this little bit of extra weight really shows.

I live with dh who has terrible food habits, loves takeaways, processed foods, chocolate, sweets etc, but tends to buy them and I eat them.

I've no self control with sweets, if it's in the house I'll eat it.

I work in a supermarket often from 6am to late so I've access to all food, but mostly it's stuff I can either eat cold or cook in a microwave, the canteen isn't very healthy.

Tonight I've come home from work (after eating lots of sweets) and eaten a whole share bag of mint aero balls to myself (About 600 calories).

Please can someone help me...

Suggested meal plan:

Breakfast options -

  • porridge made with water
  • wholemeal toast with a hard boiled egg, cherry toms

Mid morning snack options -

  • 3 low fat rice cakes with low fat cottage cheese
  • Two small pieces of fruit
  • 1 large banana

Lunch options -

  • huge salads with tuna, or hard boiled egg, or chicken, or mackerel, or roast beef (dh cooks a big gammon ham or roasts a beef joint on Sundays specifically for salads during the week - cheaper than buying packet ham and better for you)
Tbh this is mainly what I eat for lunch every day, variations of meat, fish, eggs, salad and vegetables - I buy olives, beet root, pickled onions, use Branston pickle etc to jazz things up. I don't add dressing at all

  • I almost always eat a 0% fat total yoghurt with added blueberries and sunflower seeds at lunch time too

  • I invariably have a couple of handfuls of nuts at around 6pm as we don't eat until about 8pm usually

Tea Options -

  • chicken thighs with courgettes, leeks, mushrooms stir fried in cream cheese
  • spag Bol sauce, no pasta, served with steamed broccoli - or chilli
  • any meat curry served with any green veg, no rice, or breads
  • stir fry with lots of veg and flavour, no rice
  • sausages with veg, mashed swede is lovely
  • any roast, no potatoes - I don't tend to have much gravy either
  • chops with veg

These are the types of things i eat, and it seems to work well for me. I don't eat carbs (berries excepted) after mid morning. I don't eat potatoes, rice or pasta, chocolate, sweets, crisps or cake. I would opt for full fat over low fat apart from the Greek yoghurt as I prefer it. I drink at least two litres of water a day, more if I can manage it. I exercise two-three times a week. I used to be full low carb for years, but found I was restricting what I ate too much and wanted a broader array of food stuffs.

I am 5foot 4ish and weigh between 9 stone 3 and 9 stone 5 depending on how much wine I drink!! (My downfall). I am no skinny minny, but happy with my weight and maintain it easily. I have good hair, nails and skin and never get ill.

I realise this all sounds very smug, I don't mean to be, and fall into the liquorice all sorts when I have a hangover like the next person but I follow this plan as a general rule and it deffo works for me, and I wanted to respond to those that asked for a meal plan.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 18/12/2014 11:50

I eat chocolate biscuits and pasta and potatoes and am losing weight, just in moderation along with the veg and other good stuff.

Dont need biiiiiiig portions.

Didn't get a chance to have any brekkie, but had a polo and a tiny bit if cheese. I've had a duck wrap and some sushi for lunch.

5:2 works for me (and I don't have a sedentary job, I'm less aware of being hungry when I've on the move).

But if sweets craving is your issue maybe Paul McKenna might help? I've successfully used his techniques before, particularly the one where you associate what you crave (for me, fudge doughnuts) with something that makes your stomach turn (mushroom soup mixed with phlegm). There's a thread around here on his techniques.

Can I suggest making the poridge with skimmed milk. Calcium is so so important, especially for women. You don't want to end up with osteoporosis

BIWI · 30/12/2014 09:27

Karbea - if you work in a supermarket and have access to a microwave I can't really see what your problem is! You have any manner of options all of which are healthier than choosing to eat sweets.

What's wrong with a ready meal? There are healthy options available in those. Or a bag of salad with a tin of tuna or some sliced ham?
