Help needed, I'm fat, frumpy & fed up

Took a cold hard look at myself yesterday and realised I look a mess :(

I weigh 9st 7 and given that I'm only 4'11 that's not good.

I look crap wearing clothes, even crappier without, and can't bear it any longer.

I am a weird barrel shape. It's like my stomach starts from under my boobs, and just is horrible.

I've never had much, but now I have no waist definition at all. My legs are chunky and stumpy too, and my arse would give KK a run for her money.

What's worrying me too is that being peri menopausal as well, the weight will take longer to shift.

I need to eat less and exercise more. I know it, but excuses come thick and fast.

What makes things really bad is DP is a real exercise nut. When I grumble about my weight etc, he says why not do x,y or z but then I I resent it.

Someone slap me with a wet fish and tell me please to get on with it.

All tips to start me off gently would be most welcome. Thanks

Surely the treat is that you are on your way to being healthier though? It is a way of living that you will need to adopt forever if you want to keep the weight off. No 'treats' just the satisfaction that you are taking care of your body properly Smile

ijustwanttobeme · 30/10/2014 21:01

Yeah, but monsoon, does that mean I am going to have to forego treats for ever more?

I did have a treat- sharing half a marks cheesecake pot with DP after dinner.

Still within mfp calorie limit. Again I know swirling mentioned eating just healthily so I wouldn't have to mfp, but for now it helps.

Walked 1 1/2 miles uphill, with a rucksack carrying shopping (inc 2.5 kg of spuds), so didn't do the shred tonight.

Sounds like a load of excuses doesn't it Blush

Have a late start tomorrow, so will do my exercise first thing before work.

You can always go for a walk every morning and afternoon. Like me, my job requires me to sit all day in front of a computer. And I always tell myself to not bring foods while working so I won't consume more calories that I burn. And it works! Discipline is really important. Twice a week I go to a zumba class. You can try too without going out. Buy DVD's, follow the instructor and SHAKE IT OFF! Wink

Why don't you join Slimming World. I was exactly like you last October, I cried when I couldn't even do my coat up, not even close to doing up a lose regatta type coat. I'd put on 4 odd stone in a few months. Peri-menopausal and 40 and seriously lost the plot. Hated myself actually and it wasn't just my weight that was out of control. But it was the first thing I actually managed to get back into control. I really cba to exercise - think I will have to lose the last of the fat but diet is 80-90% of figure. SW was awful to start off with, but it's very clever - it makes you like yourself again by being good to others initially. I finally got a grasp on my weight, and leading on a grasp over the rest of my life. Still got a stone to lose, but back in my normal 'fat' clothes and couldn't be happier. If I can do it then anyone can.

ijustwanttobeme · 31/10/2014 06:48

At the moment calorie counting and doing exercise everyday works. Yes it has only been a week, but I've lost 4lbs.

I tried SW a few years ago and it wasn't for me (the free food/ red and green days confused me no end)

I am thinking more about what I eat and apart from yesterday, I haven't felt that I'm depriving myself. And if I'm honest I think that was me reacting to comments. I know that there is still a way to go.

As for walking, I have a 30 minute walk to the station each morning, which also helps, and a 15 minute one at the other end.

Thank you to everyone for your comments. I am encouraged by them, to keep with this and turn my weight around, and keep it off. Then I can work on the defrumping. But that'll be a whole other thread :)

Has been full on at work so haven't had chance to log in.

Am sticking to diet, just about...making better choices but not all day everyday. Hoping that will come in time.

Shredding everyday though, which is good. Now on level 2.

I don't feel quite as despondent as I did when I first posted, so that must mean something.

Ooh, also haven't weighed myself yet(that's tomorrow), but noticed my work clothes are fitting slightly looser.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me crashing wanted to offer a couple of things. I lost my baby weight finally with three things. I used Myfitnesspal to log what I was eating and what exercise I was doing and kept to 1200 calories a day. I then did the coach to 5k programme which worked really well especially as I have never ever run in my life and now I can run 5k which I am delighted about! Finally I recently did a 9 day cleanse and lost the final 7lb I was looking to shed and also lost 4 inches. I was delighted with that and have kept that off since finishing a few weeks ago. I think overall the combo of those have changed my approach to food and exercise and helped me feel so much better about myself. Just wanted to share my experience and would be more than happy to share what apps and products I used if anyone is interested. Good luck with it all, it takes such motivation but all worth it in my opinion Smile

ijustwanttobeme · 05/11/2014 22:38

Thanks ajmtc_ I'm mfp' ing too, with 1200 calories as my limit.

You're so right, when you say it takes motivation. Seeing myself in the mirror that day made me realise that something had to change.

I've a while to go- no crash diets this time (I've done them all in the past), as want the weight to come off and stay off.

Maybe I should up my exercise, to help things along a bit quicker?

Another tip a friend who has trained as a PT told me is to alternate your exercise to keep your body burning calories and to shape up. So he said make sure you don't do all of one type of exercise so mix up cardio and strength/conditioning. Best combo I have found is one session a week of high intensity cardio (I like spinning), 1/2 runs and then a yoga or Pilates class or DVD and then trying to do as much walking as possible. I recently got a fitbit flex which counts your steps and that is great motivation as I want to hit over 7000 a day and ideally over 10,000. I got given it at work so not sure how much they cost but it is a good motivator Smile

ijustwanttobeme · 06/11/2014 19:25

Weighed myself today- Still the same weight as last week...

However, I have lost an inch of my bust and hips and 1/2 inch of my waist.

So, still positive.

Continuing with shred, but followed that today, with hip hop abs (same guy that does the Insanity DVDs).

ajmtc_ spinning?? Back in the day maybe; but now not sure I could last even ten minutes without falling off my bike, Bridget Jones stylee??

However your PT friend is right. DP is always telling me to mix it up a bit.

Fit bit ounds good, but might be a bit pricey for me- pedometer from tesco just as good?

Wow that's fab that you have lost inches it means that it is all working well done Smile

And yes i think a standard pedometer would work just as well, I wouldn't have necessarily bought a fitbit, got given it, but I do like the tracking. Wore it horseriding on Saturday and did 9000 steps in a hour!! Think it still counts as it was on my arm and not the horse's leg Grin

Keep up the fab work

ijustwanttobeme · 15/11/2014 17:39

Lost another pound.

So 5 in just over two weeks. Haven't shredded quite as much, due to late working.

Have another week of full on work, then it'll all calm down and I can get on track again.

It'll really test my healthy eating resolve as I'm going to be at a new office where cake, chocolate, biscuits etc are a daily occurrence.

A great mantra I read on Mumsnet:
'I can be thin if I want to be'

And I do SO want to be thin.
Just get up off your a**e , move more and eat less.
The women I know who are thin watch their weight and exercise.
I just have to put my own advice into practice Smile
I need to lose at least a stone and am dead lazy and eat chocolate and sweets.
