Gently Quitting Sugar..!

So, I've got a massive problem with sugar - I eat far too much of it and have got to the point where meals are being replaced with sweet snacks and chocolate bars etc Blush.

I have tried and tried in the past to go cold turkey, but from past experience I've lasted between half a day to 10 days before caving and deciding that it's just too hard to do and I have no choice but to carry on as I am.

However I have just read Potatoes Not Prozac and am really convinced by the science and methodology behind sugar addiction and how to 'cure' it. So I am starting on the gentle step-by-step plan to gradually reduce sugar and improve my eating.

It would be lovely if there are any others out there who would like to join me in a gentle approach to quitting sugar, and I also think I would benefit from recording my progress here too.

Step 1 - breakfast every day (including some protein).

Didn't really feel like it, but I had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast instead of my usual cereal. According to the book that's all I need to do for Step 1, and carry on doing that every day until I feel ready for the next step.

Step 2 is to have 3 meals a day (again with some protein at each) so I'll start working towards that too, but it will be more of an effort.

This is kind of what I've done over the last few months. I started with changing breakfast (except I also cut out the bread at the same time) - opting for protein at breakfast rather than anything sugary or with carbs. I then found it relatively easy to later tweak lunch and dinner. I don't follow it religiously - but try and restrict the odd treat to weekends.

I have felt better as a result of this - noticeably flatter stomach, weight loss and feeling good from an energy point of view.

Thanks. I've just started reading The Serotonin Power Diet which I'm finding very interesting too.
