How about nuts? Almonds have about 7 calories per nut and are really filling. You have to be careful about how many you eat though because its easy to eat too many.

I eat vegetable sticks, carrots etc followed by a glass of water. The water helps me feel more full after eating them

Fruit doesnt really make a dent on my hunger save for an apple or a banana so you could try those ?

Small block of cheese or a babybel?

A boiled egg-about 80/90 calories and filling.

Missushb · 05/10/2014 19:13

Thanks. Nuts and some cheese sound good, filling too. Yeah I find fruit doesn't always fill me either. Think I need to bulk out meals a bit too. Thanks for the tips!Smile

Yes to a boiled egg too! I make an omlette with cherry tomatoes and spinach and mixed herbs made in non stick pan with no butter and it comes in at 200 or less calories. Very filling snack or a filling breakfast.

Stop snacking.
Its bad for your insulin system.
Better to have all your calories in a couple of meals a day.

I have a ryvita with some light ricotta and a drizzle of honey - can't remember the weight of ricotta but it is about 80 cal.

Or a square or 2 of Lindt dark chocolate (60 something cal per square I think).

Or some natural yoghurt with berries.

snacking is bad for your insulin system?

Mitchy1nge · 12/10/2014 18:00

Oh. I thought you meant snacking or generally eating between meals in itself was bad, rather than a specific type of food and weight control. I was confused because nhs dietitians always include lots of snacks between meals (am pretending to follow a 3 meals 3 snacks a day regime at the moment, don't want to add to my troubles by developing insulin resistance problems Confused)

Snacking IS bad : the evidence is mounting up against it - I'm not great on all of the links - Bigchocfrenzy on the 5:2 boards has them at her fingertips

it is much better for your system to eat and then have a break than to keep your digestion primed constantly

NHS dieticians are around 10 years out of date : that is why they hate fasting even as the clinicians are embracing it wholesale

Mitchy1nge · 12/10/2014 20:06

they do hate it don't they

I can see the wisdom of eating little and often, in terms of state of mind and (especially starchy carbs) the flow of energy, but it's less pleasant to feel that you're eating fairly continuously

TalkinPeace · 12/10/2014 20:14

snacking and obesity have risen in parallel
snacking did not exist before the early 1970's
obesity and type 2 diabetes were rarities before then
correlation is not causation
BUT
cutting out all snacks is a really easy way to eat less
AND fasting has lots of other well documented health benefits

Mitchy1nge · 13/10/2014 16:41

people probably need to make an effort to eat more (vegetables and plant based things) rather than less if they need/want to lose weight

(I think it's the type rather than volume or frequency of food)
