I lost 5 stone by low carbing. Took a year. Have put 7 lbs back on 18 months later. So kept it off really.

Biggest problem for me was bread and pasta

I also do a fair bit of juicing these days. More for health than weight loss though

I know that horrible feeling too, mummy. I went from 55kg to 95kg in about three years, eating my way through stress and for every time I lost a few pounds I put them back on and then some. Four years ago I decided to do something about and lost ~35kg (~30 of which are still off). For me was a case of identify which food was my biggest default comfort food and eliminating it. Personally, it was anything that contained flour (bread, crackers...), everything else stayed on the menu; which meant I could cook the same meals for me and the rest of the family, without feeling guilty, different or deprived. After losing 10kg I came across Primal, which allowed me to focus even further whilst still being flexible to fit around the family and life. You are welcome to join us on the paleo thread.

You have to look at it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet, in 2011 I found myself a size 22, I now follow a low carb food plan and treat myself at weekends, I'm now a size 8 to 10, it won't be plain sailing you just have to really want to lose it to achieve it

FavadiCacao · 22/08/2014 17:50

Don't think of it as being on a diet but, as Losthermind says, a change in life style. Take this as an opportunity to learn to cook something new, try new foods. There will be times where you'll slip and might feel that you might be failing but that is not the case, one sitting of binging will not undo all the previous hard work, it will be just a temporary set back. Set yourself goals and remember them everytime you feel faultering. For me it was best not to think of size or clothes but things like 'I want to get back to when I could paint my toe nails without problems', 'I'm looking forward to my thighs not chafing'.... You will get there, mummy. :)

I can relate OP. At the beginning of 2003 I went from 119 to 187lbs in three months. I was horribly depressed and self-medicated with binge eating. In the following years I put on another 25lbs.

I have been yo-yo dieting ever since but what encourages me is that even though I have failed many times at keeping the weight off I have made several lifestyle changes that stuck, such as not drinking calories (no fizzy drinks, no fruit juice, black coffee only).

I am trying to low-carb and I find that it curbes my cravings. I still have to cook carbs for the DCs and for my skinny husband who has a physical job, but I eat fewer of them, if any. Yesterday we had pasta with meatballs. I had about one symbolic ounce of cooked spaghetti and ate more meatballs, with cheese.

The thing is, there will not be a miracle solution that will easily work for you where all the other ones have failed. Whichever plan you follow, it will be hard most days. You will have to say no to food that you like. But you can do it.
