Advice needed for clueless overwieghter

I have just used the nhs bmi took and I am two stone over weight. I would like to get pregnant soon but won't start to ttc until I have lost the weight.

I have done slimming world in the past, followed it to the letter and put on weight doing the extra easy thing!

I really need some advice. I know I need to eat less calories and move more but I can't seem to put it into practice.

All advice appreciated.

Thanks

Slightly more detailed than 'eat less, move more' bit still real fundementals;
Eat things that are not 'calorie dense' but have lots of nutrients - especially veg and to a lesser extent fruit.
Eat things that are high in protien as it keeps you fuller longer, if you make these low fat it also reduces the total calories - skinless chicken breasts, tuna etc, not everyone agrees this is the best way forward though.
Try to avoid things that set off cravings for more, sugar and salt are the main ones for many people. White carbs like bread and other simple carbs can also do it.
Try to eat slower release carbs like brown rice and pasta or alternatives like quinoa and measure your portions to get an idea of portion size.
'Low fat' often means high sugar, small portions of 'real' foods can be more satisfying.
Track what you eat on something like My Fittness Pal - but look for a calculator of Total Daily Energy Expenditure (there is one on the 5:2 main thread 1st post) - don't just try MFPs 1200 calories a day - that's not a lot and gets boring pretty quickly.
Portion control is important - weigh and measure until you are confident of your estimations.
I have personally had success with 5:2 as it gives me more calories to play with 5 days a week than a regular diet, which gives me room for a few more calorie dense foods - I try to keep these to nutrient rich things like nuts and cheese but sometimes cake etc sneaks in. The disadvantage is that being less strict some days means that sometimes one biscuit can lead to half a packet, if that's like to happen for you sticking to a plan that is the same every day might be better.
Good luck!

Thanks Boleh. I think will be better with a plan that is the same every day.

I do need to write down what I am eating as I sure I have developed food amnesia. I generally eat healthy food but too much of it and then eat rubbish as well as portion control is a must.

Only eat things that have been grown or used to walk or swim Grin ,so no processed food! no junk and limited bread ( I eat one or 2 slices of brown bread a day at the most ). Fish is great as it has hardly any fat and it's easy to cook. I try and stick to 3 meals a day, snack on fruit and a small treat in the evening ( a couple biscuits or a small bag of crisps ). I started doing slimming world but struggled a little with it,I lost a stone whilst doing it but it took me ages, I have lost more by doing the above and exercising more.

Thanks Marne, I have just been out for my c25k 'run'. I think I need to try good old fashioned calorie counting.

Don't do a strict diet before TTC.
I second trying MFP. Log everything you eat for a week (without trying to "diet") and see exactly when and what you eat too much.
