Anyone gone from 14 stone to 10? A question

About skin. Does it sag? I've got a big overhang on my stomach. Big thighs. Bingo wings. Stretchmarks too, but am wondering if I will look a total mess still when I get to target? :(

Will my skin tighten?

How old are you and how tall?

Fourarmsv2 · 10/08/2014 08:35

I've gone from 20 to 10/12. Yes there is some loose skin but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Laundryangel · 10/08/2014 08:47

I was 13st13 post birth with DC2 and, 2.5yrs later, am 10st5. This is 7lbs less than the weight i'd been for a few years before getting pregnant 6yrs ago with DC1. My stretch marks from pregnancies & puberty are a bit more visible and, if I pull my abs in, I get slight creases of skin below my tummy button but that is it. Otherwise, I look fantastic! Well, on a relative scale. My weight loss has been mainly through diet rather than through a rigorous exercise regime so it isn't as if I have put any effort into toning or anything. And I have never used body lotion or things like that so don't think my skin is particularly supple.

ShellyW40 · 10/08/2014 12:16

I went from ~170 to 130lbs in just over 3 months and the skin was loose for about 6 weeks. A combination of the exercise plan and proper hydration though and the skin tightened pretty quickly.

If you just diet, it will take much longer for any saggy skin to tighten.

SlightPanicAhoy · 10/08/2014 12:26

I'm 30 and 5ft 5.

I have a real jelly belly and overhang, I just can't imagine it never being there or what will happen to it once the fats gone, have been over weight for so so long! :(

If your only 30 then there is every chance your skin can adjust to the weight loss but if it is a baby belly which has been stretched then that does not usually go. Exercise of course helps to tone things up though.

I've gone from 15 stone to 9 and a half and been here for a few years now. My stomach was terrible - just really bad. If I'm honest , it still is- it's like an apron of fat I suppose.

However, I always swore that I'd not stress about this stuff if I could only be slim so I remind myself of that now! In my jeans I look fine ( I'm a size 10 now ) and you wouldn't know I had tummy issues.

My bikini wearing days are probably over but I still look just fine - and I'm 42.

tenderbuttons · 11/08/2014 17:12

You will be fine. I am over 40 and have gone from size 16 to 12 over the last few years. What really made a difference to the jelly belly was crunches, a couple more each day, three days on, one day off. I now do 100 at a time, and I wish I'd done this years ago as the overhang is hardly there at all now.

Sunmakesmesmile · 12/08/2014 14:22

I've recently lost circa 50lbs and I was worried about my skin catching up with the weight loss. I've combined the diet with a lot of exercise and to be honest apart from a bit of a wrinkly bit just above my bikini bottoms it's been fine. That's a result of two DC and too much weight gain in pregnancy more than anything else. I'm a million times happier and being slim makes up for a little bit of saggy skin which is only really exposed abroad a few times a year. and the back garden but I'm pretty sure no one can see me so that doesn't count

I would also say it takes a while for your perception of yourself to change too, I am still a bit shocked when I see pictures of myself now as still think of myself as overweight but I'm clearly not. Mentally it's as much work than anything else. Good luck and well done!

readyforno2 · 12/08/2014 14:36

I've gone from 16st 6 to 11st 4.
My belly is still a bit more saggy than I'd like but not as bad as I had imagined. I go to a personal trainer and we focus on my stomach muscles a fair bit.
I'm 29

bigTillyMint · 12/08/2014 14:45

I went from probably about 13 to about 9 when I was 21/22. I am 5'8" and I dont remember being really saggy. I stayed that weightish till 34 after DD, then noticed major sagginess after DS which has not improved since despite going to the gym, etc regularly.

I am now nearly 50 and my weight is usually 10-10.5 and I have the flappiest bingo wings, droopy knees and flabby guntSad

fatlazymummy · 17/08/2014 12:18

I went from nearly 15 stones to 11 stones.
I only have loose skin on my stomach now, and that is more of the dreaded 'apron' really. It's not that bad though, I look OK in jeans and leggings. I'm not going to wear a bikini or a bodycon dress though. To give you some perspective, when I used to sit in an upright chair my tummy would come to rest half way down my thighs.
I swear by exercise, especially weights. It's important to build the muscle to support the skin (don't worry, you won't look like a bodybuilder).
It probably depends on other factors as well. I'm 54 ,had 3 children (no CS's, which tend to effect the abdominal muscles more) and used to carry the majority of my excess weight on my front.

abigamarone · 18/08/2014 01:22

Late 40s, gone from just over 14st to 11st7, I had a proper overhanging belly, much less these days. There is still some sag, but it's more a crepey effect that loose skin. I do some weight training but find good posture more help than anything and would quite happily wear a (well cut) bikini.

NewbieChewbie · 18/08/2014 18:39

Read with interest. I actually had a tummy tuck a few years ago due to massive weight gain during pg (8st, then 5st). I've started another thread about where I am now. Even thought I've gained a couple of stones my stomach is reasonably okay. I do carry a lot of fat on my thighs though, and the dreaded bingo wings. I do worry about these every looking better. DH assures me they will - it's just the fat under the skin that makes them look like they do. But I worry that the skin has been stretched too far by the sheer volume of fat. Can anyone advise if they have had the same problem and whether weight loss and exercise (weights) has helped? I am 5'7", 13st 7lbs and 44 years old.

(I have always looked after my skin and keep it well moisturised and I drink about 2 to 3 litres of water a day, if that helps!).

fatlazymummy · 19/08/2014 15:55

newbie I don't have bingo wings or saggy skin on my thighs.I do put that down to exercise..
For the arms, yes weights do help. You need to work the tricep muscle specifically, have a look on you tube for exercises and correct technique.
I also swim quite a lot, that's great for toning the arms and shoulders.
For legs I do squats, lunges with weights (dumbells), for the inner thigh I do russian squats and a couple of yoga stretches. Swimming breaststroke works this area as well (and the pelvic floor).

galaxyguzzler · 19/08/2014 16:03

Im 30 and have gone from 14st 1lb to 9st 3lbs over the last 6 months and I have no problem with hanging skin. My tummy has a slight wobble left over from pregnancy and I have old stretch marks from when I put the weight on as a teen and also from the pregnancy. You should find the skin will shrink down as you lose weight.
