When do you get rid of your "fat" clothes?

I've recently lost around a stone and gone down a jeans size, but I've not yet got rid of any of my now too big clothes. I find myself thinking that I should keep my old jeans for gardening/DIY, or in case I put weight on again and regret giving/throwing them away.

But isn't this almost like giving myself permission to let the weight creep back on again? Has anyone had a ruthless wardrobe clear out as soon as they've gone down a size, and not regretted it?

I got rid of mine apart from a couple of special items. (Bridesmaids dress, prom dress and wedding dress). It meant I have to keep up the good work so my clothes fit.

I got rid of mine, then when I put on weight again (pregnancy related, although it doesn't have to be a willpower problem, sometimes there are medical reasons why we put on weight) - I had to buy a load of new clothes!

So what I do now is store the basics/ ones I really like/ones unlikely to go out of fashion in vac pack bags in the loft so they're out of sight, out of mind etc.

I did get rid of a lot but I wasn't exactly ruthless. I went from a big 16 to a 12. In my head I was thinking I don't ever want to be a 16 in jeans or suits so I ditched all those but couldn't part with some of my dresses and inbetween jeans. Then I got pregnant and ended up keeping my bigger linen trousers for before I needed maternity clothes.

As quickly as possible, assuming you don't plan any more pregnancies (and therefore more or less inevitable weight gain) again. Any other weight gain is avoidable, so having the clothes just makes gaining easier, as you switch to the 'fat' clothes in your wardrobe and only clock the gain when you're at the top end of those again.

I took all mine to the local charity shop as soon as they were too big for me.

Extra incentive not to put the weight back on - nothing to wear!
