Struggling

I want to lose a stone and be slim.

But I am really struggling at the moment, mainly with motivation - I just have none, and all I want to do is stuff my face with cake and sweets.

I've been the same weight since early may. My dad died then very suddenly and I completely lost my appetite for about a week but then it came back and I've been so hungry.

I am about a stone away from a completely healthy BMI.

Any tips?

Sorry about your dad, mytwoblackandwhitecats. Hard enough to lose your dad, and even more difficult for something like that to happen so suddenly.

Regarding your weight/health. I would forget about dieting and rigid targets. Have a look at your eating habits, and try and make a few simple changes (could be as simple as substituting some of the cakes/sweets with healthier alternatives; trying a 10 minute delay/destraction policy before eating something non essential; eating more slowly and asking yourself whether you're still hungry, rather than automatically continuing to eat).

Do you exercise at all? I find it's a good regulator - helpful for a healthy mindset towards eating, and also a good outlet for stress (reduces the 'need' for comfort eating). I think it also helps build a positive relationship with your body - you get an appreciation for what it can achieve, rather than resenting it for not being what you want it to be.

This stuff has worked for me, and hasn't required any willpower. It can take longer than dieting to see changes, but I think it's much less restrictive and more manageable.

I think you're right as I have realised today I am setting myself up to fail by being too rigid and strict.

I'm going to try a more relaxed approach and yes exercise is great!
