I have a really bad history with diets, and every time I try one and fail I gain more weight. My diet has been really bad lately, but I can't face another plan where I have to exclude anything. So this is what I've come up with -
Breakfast - 2 eggs and 2/3 rashers bacon (Partly because my neighbour keeps proper free-range hens and I know that they are happy and their eggs are good quality.) Plus large glass water.
Dinner - Lean meat/fish with veg (tonight I had steak with watercress and baby spinach. Totally plain, no sauce.) Plus large glass water. Nothing after dinner but water.
Snacks - celery/carrot sticks if necessary, and water to drink.
Lunch... So this is what would keep me going. Lunch would be a free meal every day - so whatever I feel like I'll have, whether it's salmon salad, or pizza, or a huge wedge of cake. One diet coke a day allowed at lunchtime. Plus I think I would restrict any fruit to the beginning of this meal. My ground rules are that I can have whatever I feel like, but once lunchtime is up, that's it for the day. And I wouldn't be silly about portion size, it's a 'diet', not a challenge! My doctor told me it's better for your health to eat a box of chocolates in one sitting than to eat a couple every few hours throughout the day, so that's what I'm bearing in mind! I know it would be better not to have ANY chocolates, but realistically that's not going to happen. Not yet anyway. So all my carbs, sugar and caffeine would be confined to lunchtime, and over with in one hit.
I'm not saying I would want to demolish a chocolate fudge cake every day, but knowing the option is there is good for me psychologically!
This has been day one, and I've enjoyed it. Last night I was drinking diet coke at 9pm and digging the Ben & Jerry's out of the freezer at 10pm. Tonight I will only be drinking water until I go to bed. I need to impose rules and a routine on myself, but I need to be able to have an almond croissant that day if I want one!
Any feedback welcome...
