Hey Guys,

I've started a healthy eating plan (not a diet, as I don't believe in them), but thinking along the lines of Slimming World. For months now, I've been reading so many scare stories online about the fact that if you no longer have your gallbladder, it is virtually impossible to lose weight anymore :o(

I had mine out in 2011, which ironically, is when my weight started to slowly creep from a steady 9st 12lb, to my current weight of 11st 11lb. I HAVE ate crap since then and I won't lie, so can't blame the gallbladder theory completely, but I'd like to hear from people who HAVE had their GB removed and HAVE managed to still lose weight afterwards?

Thanks guys x

I had mine out and piled on weight, because I was in a shit stressful job I hated and comfort ate. I changed jobs and couldn't fit into my old uniform at all, 6 weeks of clean eating and exercise and the zip slid up no problems (least forgiving trousers ever too.) I didn't weigh myself and I didn't diet as such but I easily dropped a dress size by cutting out sugar and watching my portions and snacking, literally just for that 6 weeks, so don't worry it can be done :)

Total fallacy. I've lost a stone and then put it back on

It is possibly more difficult as I found doing 5:2/really low calorie diet really caused issues, but a good healthy diet plus exercise and I'm losing again; but it will be longer term and not a crash diet.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, they are really helpful. From what I've read, I believe the gall bladder was the main storage for bile, which aid in the digestion of fats we consume, however, without the gallbladder, although the bile is still produced, and this is where my question lies, does the fat digestion slow down or carry on?

I have read on numerous forums that people have taken to supplements such as bile salts or digestive enzymes Hmm

I'm finding it harder than pre-op but assumed that was an age thing, so this thread is very interesting!

I have lost a stone, but find it goes back on incredibly easily, I only have to look at a doughnut and pile on three pounds.

Hi, I had my gall bladder out in 2012 and I had no problems losing weight after. I put it back on because I got pregnant and now am having a gastric band fitted on 23rd...but this is because of a life time of yo-yo dieting NOT because of the gallbladder removal. I'd not heard anything about weight being harder to lose afterwards and of the people that i know that had it done, none have mentioned it as a side effect. Hope this helps!
