Arrrgggghhh she knows that I'm trying to lose weight!! So what does she do? Buys fish and chips. She NEVER buys us dinner. I'm sure she's done it out of spite so that I feel obliged to eat it. (My DP bought her fish and chips on Friday because it was her birthday, i didnt get any for myself and she played pop) how many times do you need fish and chips in a week? I'm sure she's done it on purpose, absolutely sure :(

And it isnt you feeling bullied into it you were bullied into it.

Have you told your husband how you felt afterwards? Make sure you do so he realises that next time this crops up he has a choice between making you feel like that again by taking the "just eat it" attitude or making his mother feel a bit put out.

He knows how I felt and he just said he was trying to avoid me suffering the wrath of MIL and SIL. Although he would've told them where to go if they kept pestering on about it.

To be fair I've ha a lot on my mind these past couple of days. Just found out that my dad has £40000+ worth of debts. He reckoned that he was laid off at work when in actual fact after a sneaky phone call to him boss he just didn't turn up to work one morning and wouldn't answer his phone calls. He's severely depressed, overweight and now broke. He has rent to pay and two little boys to support and a partner who orders him about like a slave.

Hi prawny sounds like you need some assertiveness training. It is so hard to lose weight when you have a difficult family, but the good thing is if you take this situation as a reason to develop assertiveness skills they will be useful in so many other areas of life too.

Also it might be worth choosing a diet plan that allows for the odd celebration meal. A lot of diets do allow you to do this. Fish and chips is a difficult one but you could squeeze it in on weight watchers for example by using your weekly allowance of extra points, and some take aways are lower in calories, if you choose a good option from the menu. My kebab shop does a small chicken kebab for about 600 calories so you can easily fit it in to a dieting day.

gamerchick · 31/05/2014 17:58

You can eat fish and chips.. just take all of the batter off the fish which has soaked up the fat and have a couple of handfuls of chips. It won't wreck your diet.

It sounds as if you have bigger problems than that though. Asserting yourself can take practise but it does get easier the more you do it.

He's justifying taking the easy way out. And so are you, a bit.

Please stand up to your MIL, in future. And please eat thee meals a day, however small. Your DC need to see you take care of yourself and eat, and you need to look after yourself.

I know what you mean about feeling you may as well not bother, but the key thing about weight loss is that every day is the first day of your diet. Whatever has gone before, you just start again each day.

Just so you know, fish and chips is actually the best takeaway you can have calorie wise and fish is full of protein and healthy. Yes batters not great but you need some carbs. Chips aren't great but just eat less tomorrow or go for a long walk. Also, some diets encourage you to eat more every so often to confuse your body. Grin
