I've gone sugar free since Monday morning

when I weighed myself and was 9lb above my normal, settled weight. I weighed myself this morning at the same time and I have 'lost' 7 lb.

How is this possible in 4 days? I don't look any different, my clothes ares till fitting in the same way as they were on Monday morning ie rather tight, which is why I weighed myself. I know it isn't permanenet weight loss in this short time, how could it be?

I didn't have an enormous dinner on Sunday night or an enormous breakfast before weighing on Monday morning.

I've no idea, but interested in how you're finding it. I like the idea..and chocolate!

I am finding it surprisingly easy, to be honest. Its only been 4 days though, so who knows how I will feel as time goes on. The loss showing on the scales at least will keep me going, I hope. And the fact that I can't really fit into any of my summer clothes, and summer is showing signs of arriving!

I have decide to allow myself a Freddo once in a while (95 calories of Cadbury's chocolate) but the reason I have gone sugar free is that I was seriously overdosing on chocolate and haribo.

Well done!

Low fat has been debunked, though. Those of us no-sugaring longer term have had more success by increasing fat (because it is filling) and the longitudinal studies bear the theory out. So don't worry about fat, just concentrate on the sugar.

As you go on you'll find the occasional treats less attractive, too. I have the odd day off and have found all my old pitfalls very disappointing. Chocolate is just, erm, sweet fat to me now! But I agree that giving yourself permission to have sugar sometimes is clever.

Oops, posted too early.

The idea of "social obligation sugar" or SOS is useful. You don't necessarily give yourself a day off, you just allow yourself a small slice of birthday cake or dinner party glazed ham where refusing altogether would be too attention-seeking.

DH and I have each lost a stone. My skin, hair and energy levels are all better. It works!

Thanks Fatal. I am so surprised at how easy I am finding it at the moment. I have been gorging on huge amounts of chocolate daily recently, so I though I would have serious cravings. I desperately want to lose weight though, and I hope that my willpower will come though. I only need to lose another 5 lb or so, but I don't want to put it straight back on.

There are loads of sweet treats in the house, but I just don't want them. I want to lose the weight more.

What do you have as treats now?

Wow, that's awesome! I feel so much better workout sugar but find it so restrictive. So are you cutting out potatoes, tomatoes etc as well or just refined/processed sugars (don't know the proper terminology!)?

Nasturtium89 · 23/05/2014 17:39

*without

FatalCabbage · 23/05/2014 18:42

I don't have refined sugar (so anything with sugar, dextrose, syrup etc on the label) or sugar substitutes such as sweeteners, honey, etc.

I do have a limited amount of dried fruit, and as much fresh fruit and other naturally-occurring sugar as I like.

Other people have different rules but these make sense to me, and have been working.

Treats? I've been trying hard to stop rewarding myself with food, but our "oh go on" staples are ff Greek yogurt, ready salted crisps, cashew nuts, dried apple rings, sultanas, etc. And fizzy water by the pint - fortunately 18p for a 2L bottle in the supermarket...

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 23/05/2014 18:56

I am not eating dried fruit, very high natural sugar fruit (pineapple, grapes), things like honey or jam, and basically anything that tastes like it could have been sweetened, like yoghurt.
