A stone in six weeks

Efferlunt · 17/04/2014 10:45

I have put on a stone in the past year. Feel very bad but we moved so I quit the gym and eat really badly, I'm veggie so mostly cheese and bread. I have an event at the end of May and I know everyone will notice how much weight I've put on.

I've never really dieted before did 5:2 for about six weeks but don't have the will power. Is this possible? Have you done it and what diet worked for you?

I've lost a stone since Pancake Day in the sugar free club. I'm always full and eat well. Skin and hair better, better energy, etc.

Worth a try?

It is possible but very difficult. Losing a few pounds even would be good though.

I think you could easily lose a stone in 6 weeks doing slimming world. I've lost 11.5lb in 4 weeks so only 2.5lb to go which should be doable in 2 weeks.

Okay good to know it is just about possible. Which gives me motivation. Know longer term I need to Change the way I eat really. But I'm fed up with the weight and want it off now. Not sure sugar free would make the difference it's carbs and cheese that are the problem!

You'd be amazed what no sugar can do. It hides in things.

You seem to be thinking in terms of short termism which is okay but the subconscious mind thinks: 'Hmm, she only will be doing this for a month, I will bide my time then it will be back to the goodies again!' It takes a while to dislodge fat, good thing or we would have starved during a lean period in less prosperous times.

It takes more than a month to alter fat cells to make them more efficient. good news is that once you do that a) it becomes harder to put on weight and b) the sugary crap you once craved is like a love who once had you on the hook but now doesn't, it doesn't push the same buttons so you never feel like you are 'denying' yourself anything.

Cheese isn't too good of course, avocados are good fats, also nuts.

Agreed, sugar is a killer so start reading the content on your drink beverages and so on, even bananas have loads of it.

I think it depends how much you have to lose. If you are only slightly over or within an ideal weight range, I would say a stone in 6 weeks is probably possible but you would likely put most of it straight back on.

If you are several stone overweight then it is much more likely that you will be able to lose it.

Efferlunt · 18/04/2014 10:13

Ithanks for the replies. My bmi is 26/27 at the moment which tips me into overweight. I'd like to be 24 or so which would mean being a stone and a half lighter. I've put on a stone through terrible eating over the past year. I've been in a really stressful situation and comfort eating and it is hard to break that habit. I just feel if I could kick start the process do I have the motivation to keep it off that would really help to stop eating so badly.

You can lose a stone in 6 weeks and theres no reason why you would put it back on unless you started eating badly or increasing your intake.

Go with any plan that you think you can stick to and do a bit of exercise, even if its brisk walking.

Try with cutting right down on bread to maybe one slice a day if you can't cut it out and cut out bread. Cut out snacking unless its fruit, don't eat cereals except oats, cut down fat content in meals and eat more veg.

I have a wedding to go to in 8 weeks so I'm hoping to lose at least a stone and am aiming for a stone and half. I'm also doing Shred as I got amazing results when I did it before. I looked like I'd lost loads of weight even though I hadn't. I'd lost loads of inches though.
I'm only eating fruit, veg, lean protein, brown rice and wholemeal pasta. I'm not having any bread and not much sugar. I'm going to have a bit of decent choc as my treat most days or a small scoop of frozen yoghurt.
This has worked for me before.

ThePowerOfMe · 18/04/2014 12:25

Sorry I meant cut out cheese in my 3rd paragraph. The calories aren't worth it. If you're a cheese lover like me then a bit of half fat just doesn't cut it! But have a bit if you really want it and can stop.

grabaspoon · 18/04/2014 12:30

I've lost a stone and a half since valentines day.

grabaspoon · 18/04/2014 12:30

I have upped my exercise, drank more, stopped snacking and eaten smaller portions.

IDugUpADiamond · 20/04/2014 08:05

I'd also like to lose a stone and a half. Sugar-wise, is it important to cut down on milk?

RubySlippers77 · 23/04/2014 08:28

Hi Efferlunt :)

Sounds like we are in the same position!! I'm going to a wedding with OH at the end of May and would love to have lost some weight by then (quite apart from none of my frocks fit properly Blush ). I'd like to lose a stone and a half in total - I was slim up till a year or so ago.

I'm going to try the Harcombe diet again as apart from weight loss it also made me feel a lot more positive. Also thinking of joining a Rosemary Conley class for the exercise and local support!

I think exercise works best, building it up gradually
