Feeling fat, tired, achey and crap. I need to lose some weight.

So I am going to take action. Finally.

I have set myself up with mfp and I am going to exercise, eat carefully and stop eating junk. I also need to reduce portion size and not eat in the evening.

I am 16stone. It feels horrible like this and to make it worse it is all my own fault. My knees and hips hurt at the end of the day, my ankles sometimes, my back is dodgy, I snore. All these things can be put right if I lost some weight. So it is my birthday in 6 weeks I am looking to lose a stone by then.

I would love somebody cheering me on but even if no one does I intend to use this thread as a mini diary to make myself accountable to me and document my progress.

It feels like a massive thing to be this overweight (my ideal is around 11 stone ) so that is why I am going to attack it stone by stone.

2 I was feeling so similar last night, and want to be keeping a diet too. I've joined the Weight Loss Buddy thread... hope you will join us.

cashewfrenzy · 24/03/2014 07:45

I'm in that boat with you.

Our family is giving up sugar for a fortnight and I'm going to cut my carbs. This is important to me because I'm hooked on them. I identify with being tired and sore. I exercise lots and love it but it would be much better without these extra several stones weight.

Good for you for making this decision and I wish you every success :)

2whippetsnobed · 24/03/2014 09:44

Thank you both! Can you link to the thread you mentioned Logg1e as I can't see it anywhere.

I love exercise - I have two dogs and walk miles with them but I know I would feel so much better without so much extra weight.

Today has been two dippy eggs and two slices of bread with two cups of tea. Got loads to do today so I should be occupied and not wanting to nibble.

I don't know how to link 2 but it's on the same front page as this one, "weight loss buddy ??" (and nobody's talking to me tonight!).

Orangeisthenewbanana · 24/03/2014 20:04

I'll cheer you along & join you if you don't mind.

Have recently stopped breastfeeding and I have been so upset trying on all of my pre-pregnancy clothes. Was shopping last week for a smart dress and nearly left the shop in tears as the (bigger) size I was trying just looked awful. Getting on the scales didn't help either Sad

Fortunately, it's given me the kick up the bum I needed. Have my sister's wedding in the summer and a lovely bridesmaids dress to fit into so that's my goal. Am currently 75kg and want to get back down to 70kg for starters. Action plan is:

  1. MFP
  2. x2 40 minute (minimum) walks a day on my days off. Have a very active job so am fine on my work days.
  3. DH & I have invested in an exercise bike so to do 20-30 minutes most nights after DD in bed.
  4. Reduce portion sizes
  5. Have given up fizzy drinks & alcohol completely

Hope we can all make some progress together!

cashewfrenzy · 24/03/2014 21:40

Today was OK here, I didn't eat healthily but no sugar was consumed!

Keep up the good work folks :)

2whippetsnobed · 24/03/2014 21:47

Successful day to start. I am finding it hard not to snack in the evening though. Trying to feel positive as I have done a nice long dog walk and just had my planned meals and one biscuit with my brew. So good.

Todays menu was:
Two dippy eggs with two slices of bread.
Pitta bread with ham, cheese and salad and light mayo for lunch.
A pear mid afternoon.
Roast chicken, boiled potatoes and veg with gravy for tea.
After tea I had a brew with one biscuit.

You've inspired me to have eggs today 2 :)

claraschu · 25/03/2014 08:23

How about low calorie snacks for the evening? I like to make popcorn (with no oil).

Orangeisthenewbanana · 25/03/2014 09:42

Morning! Bit late getting going today as DD was up half the night. Good start for me with a bowl of Special K and a small orange juice. Just waiting for my shopping delivery and then am heading out for a walk with my mum (who is also in wedding weight loss mode!).

Ideas for low calorie evening snacking would be good. My danger time is that first hour when I get back from work or around DD's tea time.

DuchessFanny · 25/03/2014 09:45

Hello All ! If you're looking for buddies on MFP there are a load of us who joined together just after Christmas, look me up Rolph75 and add me and you'll be able to see everyone else and add them too. It's much better with the added support !

cashewfrenzy · 25/03/2014 09:55

I've been looking up some stuff about insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and prediabetes this morning ... it definitely fits my symptoms :(

I'm toying with the idea of making a GP appointment about it, although I think I'd cry if they just gave me a lecture on healthy eating. I don't really expect them to do anything anyway, I just wanted to talk it through and perhaps look for support. Scared though - I have problems with binge eating and plucked up courage to talk to two GPs about it in the past and neither really took it on board, left me feeling weak and foolish :( What do you think?

Sorry that's a bit off topic ... it does relate to being fat, tired and achy though!

Orangeisthenewbanana · 25/03/2014 10:09

Cashew sorry to hear you haven't had much support from your GP's. I've found a good way to deal with doctors being dismissive is go armed with having already done the things they'll try to fob you off with. If they try to brush you off with the old "eat better, do more exercise", you can come back with "but this is my weekly diet and I've done this amount of exercise, over x weeks and it's still not working". That kind of leaves them no option than to offer further support.

Are you aware of what triggers your binge eating? Mine are boredom and feeling a little bit down.

2whippetsnobed · 26/03/2014 09:54

Duchess thank you for the invite - I'll look you up later. Smile

Cashew I understand what you mean about GPs. I think most people don't 'get' how much binge eating can affect you. I know I haven't even bothered trying to ask for help because I would struggle to explain it. I binge when I am sad, tired, upset, nervous, worried. Lots of triggers and it often becomes a habit.
Could you approach a dietician/nurse instead of the GP. In the county where I live the nhs run a six week course for overweight people. It is run by a specialist nurse and you can self refer. May be more understanding because I don't see how any healthcare practitioner can be involved in healthy eating and not know about eating disorders.

From experience I know I have to stay away from any evening snacks. I just don't seem to have any control after 8pm! Also I like to use my calorie allowance in my meals so I feel like I have eaten well. I found yesterday evening so hard as I had to make pack lunches for the dcs. So I was in the kitchen after 8pm. I ate a boiled egg (luv eggs!) and then I made some squash and downed it in one. Realised I was excessively thirsty! So dranks loads. Seemed to cure the urge to scoff though.

Hi

I'm in the same boat too. I joined slimming world 6 weeks ago & have lost 1 stone 5lb but still bigger than you OP! The first week is hard but a decent loss makes it worthwhile.

Things that help me, I've mostly stopped drinking sine start of Feb-could easily drink a bottle of wine most nights & when the drink's in, the wit's out as they say. I defo eat more crisps & choc etc when drinking as I love it all.

I still have my treats in the evening-maize snacks like quavers & wot sits aren't too bad but I've started going to bed earlier to read my book & aim to get into a better cleanse, tone & moisturise routine to take up some more of my evening time as it's my trigger too.

Nimble bread is good for sarnies & I've been getting used to less carbs-lots of big big salads with chicken & soups for me.

This week I'm working on drinking enough water & writing down what I'm eating.

Oh, and nearby butchers do slimming sausages which are lovely (half a syn each on sw)

Any other tips gratefully received!

Logg1e · 26/03/2014 18:51

Wow evelynj that's great. I hope I'm saying even half of that weight loss in 6 weeks' time.

cashewfrenzy · 26/03/2014 21:26

Well done Evelyn! That's really impressive :)

I've been having a good week. Nuts and carrots for snacks, yogurt and seeds for breakfasts, eggs for lunches and veg-heavy dinners. No bingeing (unless the huge bowl of plain popcorn dh and I scoffed last night counts!) and I feel ok. Glorious sunshine has helped :)

I binge for loads of reasons but it's got to a stage where it's just what I do. It's only been a few days but I've realised how long it's been since I managed not to randomly snack on rubbish and fill up on toast etc. Feeling good just now - in control :)

Well done folks ... it's worth it.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 26/03/2014 21:56

Wow Evelyn! That's fantastic Smile

Good day here too. Have managed to get on the exercise bike this evening & had a decent walk back from DD's nursery. Been good with what I've been eating too. Bit disappointed yesterday when I weighed myself and hadn't lost anything in the last week. But when I used to go to the gym, it would take me 3 weeks to really notice any difference so will keep on going and reasses in a few weeks if the weight still isn't shifting.

stoopstofolly · 26/03/2014 22:02

I'm on MFP with a lot of people I met on the MN New Year "lose 52 lb in 52 weeks" thread. It's been great- very supportive, and nice to share progress or hiccups with people.
Same user name on MFP if you want to friend me... Grin

2whippetsnobed · 28/03/2014 10:13

So this week has been mostly successful. I had a sneaky weigh in this morning and I've lost 4lb since Sunday! Shock

Had an extra snack yesterday but was also busy so all good. Yesterdays menu was toast with philly for breakfast, lunch was salad pitta and tea was baked potato with beans, cheese and salad. Followed by two (small) homemade cookies as DS had been baking.
Feel like I can make it work.

Thanks all. That sounds great 2whippets :) I'm trying to be good until tomorrow night when I have wine scheduled but have often found that being good most of the week with one evening of badness can still result in a good loss so fingers crossed.

Also, it's probably obvious but to get a proper check of weightloss you should record at the same time every week wearing the same sort of clothes (e.g. jeans are heavier than linen). I often have a peek though.

Currently soaking veg to make soup tomorrow-made stock last night so will fill the freezer.

I need stuff that's quite quick to make for meals so a while ago I made a huge stockpot of chilli (25 portions) and froze it. Each week now I generally defrost chilli for wed tea & boil rice to go with it but do double the rice & next day throw the extra rice in with a pack of stir fry veg & some prawns & sauce for quick meal!

Strawberries have been on the menu this week-they're pretty filling & I think low GI.

Hope everyone else doing well. MFP sounds good but I can't be bothered doing any more admin ;) May try to get the pedometer on the go tomorrow though.....

cashewfrenzy · 29/03/2014 11:29

Well done on your loss 2whippets :)

I went astray last night - film night with friends. I had a glass of Appletise, some flapjack and brownie but otherwise I've been really good about avoiding sugar this week. Think I've lost about 3lbs.

I've a horrible cold today so I'm feeling a bit down. I'm hoping that's why I've got weird achy joints. Going to make a delicious dinner tonight, thinking Nigella's chicken and chorizo. Comfort food :)

2whippetsnobed · 04/04/2014 08:16

So yesterday was a bit of a disaster eating lots of lovely millionaires shortbread

But back on track, focused and ready for today. Kids are off school but I am determined to stick to my three meals and get lots of walking done with kids in tow.
