Hi,

I need to start a new diet, and I think I'd do best for now if I started back at a group and followed the official plan. I don't seem to be doing well at all on my own (last couple of years).

Which did you find to be the best diet/meeting and why?

Thanks

ps - I am looking at something that is family friendly, i.e. my Husband might eat, and won't take me hours to prepare/cook

I prefer WW and have had some good success with it. I think meetings vary between leader but i've always found the plan easy to follow and adaptable to OH.
SW I always found a bit too happy-clappy and people got singled out quite a lot during meetings (my idea of hell). Again though, no problem with the actual plan and meetings vary by leader.
RC was always a big NO for me - the exercise class element puts me right off!

Thanks mrssmith - to be honest I don't think it matters too much what plan I follow as long as I stick to it! I think I need the routine etc of a regular meeting and weigh in to make me stick to a weight loss programme!
Was just wondering what plans others found the easiest to stick to x

I find the going and geting weighed helps me no end. I did RC a long time ago and found it quite restrictive (as i love my crisps). Saying that I do have a recipe book which I still use. I used WW to lose 2 and a half stones about 10 years ago. Stopped going to classes etc about 4 months later. Kept it off more or less until I fell pregnant. Went back after birth and lost 3 stone. Stopped going straight away, put a stone back on in the next year. Back to classes lost the stone. Decided I need to keep going to classes at least once a month. Point being, I found it easy enough to fit around dh and toddler. I like that nothing is truely vetoed. I can gave crisps and wine and takeaway and still lose/maintain weight

That's a good point hollyben -to go once a month whilst maintaining. Do you go as a gold member?

I tried weight watchers a few years ago - lost 7lbs in a month but then stagnated and then started gaining again when propoints were introduced. But I have just seen from a friend that they have updated the plan and she has lost 6.5lbs in the first week (and isn't very big - she can't have much more than 1.5st to lose!)

I go for free as a gold member as long as I stay within 5lbs of my goal weight. I generally avoid the WW branded foods but have used them since dd was born for convenience. They do a chow mein which I like and generally have one in the freezer. The desserts are quite good as are the lemon cake slices. I also like that fruit is point free on pro points. Finding a good leader is key I think. My first leader was brilliant. Since they have been ok or rubbish but I am confident and know what works for me so I just get on with it. If you find a good one they should be able to suggest changes etc if you stagnate

I've done ww and sw. Ww worked for me when I was a singleton, ate a lot of ready meals + veg. I find sw easier for family meals, tend to do curry, chilli, bolognese, roasts, jacket spuds, pasta etc from scratch. As long as they're from the massive range of free foods, I don't then have to weigh my portion of them or fool myself into believing I'm having a quarter when I'm really having a third

I do love the support of meetings and my leader also has a Facebook group which is great for keeping motivation if I can't stay for the full meeting.

There are loads of free joining vouchers for both around at the moment, may be worth attending a meeting of both as tbh I think quality of leader and whether you like them makes a massive difference.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 14/01/2014 21:37

I think you're right hollyben and ballstoit - it's all about the support from the leader and the rest of the group. Pity there isn't a website rating different groups!lol!

I might look into going to a couple of different groups to see which I like. Do online passes just get you in to one class per week?
