Weight loss question - bit involved

I've weighed the same for the last five years (give or take a pregnancy). I would like to lose weight but my diet is quite healthy now, just too many calories to actually lose any pounds I guess.

My question is this: If I diet and lose the weight will I then be able to go back to eating normally and still maintain the new weight? Or will my weight start to creep up?

I would like to lose weight but I can't imagine changing the way I eat forever.

I believe that as you get older that your metabolism slows gradually so even if you ate the same diet and took the same exercise for the rest of your life you would still gradually gain weight.

If your diet is healthy don't change it, just incorporate more exercise into your daily rountine.

What about upping your exercise instead? Then you can eat the same ans still lose weight!

Exercise is really the key. Part of why people need fewer and fewer calories as they age, is because they lose muscle mass. Muscle costs more calories to maintain than fat.

But yes, if you drop weight, but go back to your old eating habits, you will go back to your previous weight - if you weigh less, then you are carrying around fewer pounds, so you will burn fewer calories than you do now, iyswim.

Thanks so much for the info. That all makes sense. Sounds like exercise is the answer.
