What's the difference between Slimfast and Lighterlife/Cambridge diet?

Apart from the cost and the counselling, is there actually any difference between these diets? Are they nutritionally similar and do they fill you up the same? I've done Slimfast before and quite honestly, it was horrendous - I was ravenous. Would I be the same on Lighterlife or Cambridge?

i dont think there is alot fo difference between CD and LL. Slimfast involves eating 'food' though as well as 'shakes'

I was on the cambridge diet a few months back. The diet is very different to Slim Fast which I have also tried. Every pack contains a third of your daily recommended nutrition ..this includes all your vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function with the least amount of calories without the body going into starvation.
Slim fast consists of about 250 kcal per shake/meal. Whereas the cambridge ranges from 132kcal for a shake and 172 kcal for a bar. Slim fast doesn't provide you with all your daily vitamins and therefore you do need to eat with it otherwise it can damage your body.
The cambridge diet is hard but once established (day 3 or 4) your body goes into Ketosis which is the fat burning process which no longer makes you feel hungry. If you need any more info please feel free to ask.

and it tastes 10 times better too!

My understanding about ligtherlife and the cambridge diet is only second hand and I have no personal knowledge having not used the products but that is my understanding of how they work.

Lighterlife and cambridge diets involve removing conventional food from you daily diet and just having vitamin and mineral shakes. Once you reach your goal weight you then reintroduce food gradually. Both of these are only short term diets. Slimfast is a vitamin and mineral shake but you also have 1 meal of conventional food as well. If you are interested in something that will involve food but ensure that you are not hungry drop me a line at shapeworksuk at yahoo dot co dot uk
You were hungry on slimfast because you weren't eating enough protein.

i have done (had to come if it last week as i have an operation on weds) LL for 100 days and lost nrly 4 stone. did have some herbalife protein bars some days aswell (shapeworks) which can vary the diet a bit.

hoping to loose another 2ish stone after ive had my op. it does work, but its bloody hard!

bubbaloo · 24/07/2006 17:03

I lost 3.7 stone between Feb and May this year on the CD,but am finding it really hard to get back on it now I've had a break.I would reccommend it though you do need lots of willpower and it's VERY unsociable.hth

Kaloo20 · 24/07/2006 17:06

LL is unsociable too and hard and the weight goes back on very easily.

i managed a 2wk holiday and after 4 days had lost what i had put on. i know my wieght as of last saturday, hopnig itll only fluctuate 7lb and then i get that off again by mid/end aug. i think you really have to change your lifestyle after, but its a good 'kick start'

It's not just the added meal with slim fast, but Cambridge diet is very low in carbs, so as laughinglil says, you enter a state of ketosis which burns off fat really quickly and also has the added benefit of making you not feel hungry. I wish I could do cambrigde, but can't. don't know about ll.

Slim fast & similar tend to be high in carbs so you don't get this ketosis effect
