How not to be the Grinch?

I've lost weight and do not want to be back at square 1 in January.

Tomorrow especially I'll be surrounded by people urging me to overindulge and become as fat as they are

Anyone have típs to cope? I find I physically cannot consume as much now, especially carbs and booze without suffering horribly afterwards.

And I find being around drunk people very tedious - but will have six or 7 hours of this to endure tomorrow at a relative's home.

I'm a bundle of laughs, aren't I? Smile

Me too. My family don't drink a lot, but I still plan to be careful, without totally denying myself. Bit less booze, small pudding, and taste of cheese for me!

Dingit - do you have to deal with others trying to force feed you? I've warned dh not to join in with the pressure.

I have found I've even gone off chocolate, which I never thought would happen.

(I followed the Harcombe diet btw which really has changed my eating patterns - I now only consume things that I love the taste of, and anything very sweet tastes dreadful).

My dm is not great. Fortunately I am catering this year. And I too have gone off chocolate, which was my biggest downfall. I do Rosemary Conley, and she told us to take 3 days off, then back to our diet! Good luck and gave a great christmas.

There'll be plenty I can eat- it's just the pressure for gluttony is enormous - that's what makes me snappy... I just want to be left alone to eat and drink what I want, not mountains of carby, sugary crap.

Oh well, only 1 day.

Remember it's just one day and you vCan go back to eating your way on Boxing Day. One day off plan won't undo all your good wORK.

Are you having Christmas lunch? Try and control what goes on your plate and then just enjoy that. We're going to MILs and I just know she is going to try and serve me three times more food than I can physically eat so I plan to pay attention during dishing up so I end up with just one or two roast pots, not six etc Grin.

When pudding is served just have a little bit cos you are stuffed from your main.

Good luck!

actually it is the drunks who are boring.

the phrase is simple. 'thank you, that meal was lovely, I've now had enough'. Repeat as needed. There's no pressure for gluttony except what you create.

BTW complex carbs are good and you should have 40% of them in your diet. You can eat anything, just not too much of it. Like everyone else.

the concept of 'a diet' and 'days off a diet' is ridiculous. That's how diet gurus make money.

I'm the same. Don't have the same appetite anymore and my body can't handle the crap I used to eat. Today I had a v. sugary fatty tray bake and a hot chocolate and I thought I was going to be sick afterwards. I felt absolutely awful!

Tomorrow I'm planning on piling up the veggies and turkey, whilst having a very small portion of the fatty stuff. Will be drinking wine though. There are some things I couldn't do without Wink. Though my tolerance for alcohol is much less than it was.

I'm planning a fast day on Friday to even it out.

Good luck everybody! Long may our weight loss continue.

I hate it when people serve me Xmas dinner and then pile it high with enough to feed 5 men when I am a five foot two female. If you can serve yourself your own portion of Christmas dinner then that is great.

I have lost weight this year and my appetite has dramatically reduced.

I don't normally drink alcohol. However people will try to force alcohol onto you. When I ask for water/diet coke, etc. I get told I must want something with it. I respond that I want X because I am really thirsty. If they repeat numerous times a physically get up to get myself a drink as I am really thirsty! It is ok to have a couple of drinks if you want to but I don't understand why it is necessary to get hammered.

I would just concentrate on enjoying your food. If you get interruptions from people kindly try to shovel more into your mouth. I just reply no thank you I'm enjoying my Christmas pudding, etc. If you are not eating and people are trying to shovel quality street down you throat. Just reply no thank you I am stuffed from the lovely Christmas pudding, etc.

I do treat and enjoy myself on Christmas Day I'm just not going to eat a week worth of food on one day (but I did have chocolate orange for breakfast!)

I eat from a breakfast plate rather than dinner plate. If a buffet, i allow myself one large ish plate but I don't go back! Only one trip allowed

Drinks: I go for gin & slimline or something similar, if being very good I fix myself drinks that look like they are alcoholic! soda in a tall glass with ice & a slice.

I've worked so hard this year, but I know I've put on weight in last few weeks not because of large portions but more alcohol than usual & more evenings out.

fumps · 25/12/2013 22:08

All is well. I served myself, had a lovely plate of turkey, veg and 1 roastie, followed by a small helping of Xmas pud. I enjoyed the wine but drank 2 glasses of water for every glass of wine.

I'm in bed now with a clear head and no indigestion.
