So who has lost a considerable amoun of weight and kept it off?

Getting fed up of starting a diet and sticking to it for a while and then reverting back to my old ways.
Manage to lose about a stone and then, well I don't know what happens apart from wrong!

Why????

Need a diet I can stick to and the motivation to do it....

tried slimming world and rosemary conley before

no 'diet' works - but changes of attitude and approaches to eating and food do
do you think your problem is portion control or snacking? where do you usually 'fall down' when dieting (what are your weaknesses)?

I don't buy anything I know I'll snack on but after a while I just cave in and once I've cheated once I can never get back on track and it then spirals out of control

have you tried weight watchers? you can count points and you have to stay under that amount but you can actually eat whatever you want. the thing is, once you've had a few blowouts on high-point food and you've not much left for the rest of the day, you soon train yourself not to go for food like that.

i've been following weight watchers for 5 weeks now - using friends' books as i can't afford the meetings at the moment and i've lost a little each week - 7lbs now, which isn't mind-blowing but much more likely to stay off in the long-term as i'm not feeling deprived in any way, which what i hate about traditional diets.

Hmm, I lose weight per child, and keep it off. Not on purpose, though. But as Moomin says, it was down to changes in attitude, approaches to eating, and also big changes in activity level.

I'm down a bit more than a stone from my pre-DS1 weight, now.

Hmm, there's a book on eating that someone here was mentioning the other day. I had a glance at it once, and a lot of it was about saying you can have treats. You're a grownup, you can eat whatever you want. They're not forbidden.

Which makes them less tempting. It seemed an interesting attitude, and one I've come around to more and more as I get older.

Weirdly, lately, I will often decide, ok, I should have some ice cream or other treat, and then decice to have an orange instead. Not out of dietary concerns (it wouldn't do me any harm to lose more weight, but I just refuse to diet), but because I would rather have an orange.

Easy. HAVE that naughty little something. But not a kilo of it. An dthen be careful...

I lost quite a lot (3 st?) last year with WW, the treats thing (you get 21 points a week on no count for the naughty little somethings) was excellent. I would use all of mine in one blow out with DH a week.

I lost more after I left WW which has been regained, but am still at Goal a year from starting (seven months after goal) and it isn''t about denial, it's about resisting what you can so that you don't need to worry when you can't resist. if that makes sense.

Really fed up of yoyo dieting and need to make a change not just for me but for my girls....I set a terrible example for them.

off to look at that book!
